Question I keep dropping things..Instant sleep state

I had a wonderful birthday yesterday;however, something started happening with me.

I keep dropping things:

*little box of blueberries, all over the kitchen floor.
* glass of tea, all over me and my fav chair
* glass of soda, all over me and the dinner table.

I have no control when it happens..just happens

Instant Sleep State of Being

Also, I drift off to sleep without notice. I have had my bouts with insomnia, and KNOW what that is all about. The instant sleep state of being, is another story. I wake up having jerking movements throughout my body. It happens at home, hubby driving with me in the car, restaurant...Scary!

I have not changed my medications. I have dealt with intense pain the last few days because the rain is trying to break through.

Your input would be appreciated.

Dew

Default Hi Dew,

I'm glad you had a good Birthday.
As far as the instant sleep thing, that sounds like Cronic Fatigue Syndrome. I was diagnosed with it years ago and I would do the same thing. Go to sleep in the car, couldn't stay awake for any length of time. I use to beg my Drs. to give me something for it and none knew what to do. It's kind of like the RSD, you have to go into remission from it, which I finally did. It aggravated me as much as dealing with any other illness I was dealing with. When I went to my sister's funeral about 5 years ago, I had to go to the Undertakers house and lay down for awhile, I was so bad from it. I still get very fatigued at night where I can't hardly function.

The jerking movements come from the RSD, I'm assuming. Bill use to say I jerked in bed so bad I would wake him and I have heard others on here talk about them.

Dropping is the same way. If you have the RSD in your arms and hands then that seems to be something we deal with. I drop everything and then it takes me two or three tries to pick it up.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Hi Dew...

I too have problems with dropping stuff... yesterday it was my keys... I dropped them 3 times within moving 5 feet. I just couldn't feel them in my hand. My mom finally took them away from me and wouldn't hand them back.

I also drop glasses, plates, you name it... I think I owe my parents a new set of glasses and plates... I've broken so many.

I'm not allowed to use the stove as I have dropped many hot pans and burned myself while doing so.

--As far as sleep... I have great difficulty in falling asleep/staying asleep. I have, as of late, noticed that I am having numerous black outs. I think they are only lasting minutes... but it's hard to tell.

I hope things level out for you soon... I know how frustrating and scary these things can be.

Glad to know that I am not the only one with lack of control in holding on to things. I also have trouble picking things up since I have lost alot of use of my dominant hand. I was wondering; my daughter also complains to me that my hand "twitches" when I am resting it on her....I didn't even notice it. Creepy!! Ha! Thanks again. Suz66

Hi Dew,
I'm glad to hear you had a happy birthday!!
I'm sure you are worried about these new symptoms you are experiencing. I haven't had any jerking yet, nor am I dropping things, but I have read many posts by RSD'ers who have experienced this...I hope they'll respond with some information and suggestions soon, to quell you fear..

Along with bouts of insomia, I also get into an extremely sleepy state at the wrong times of the day! it happens at work where I will practically fall asleep at my desk or durng lunch when I can honestly fall asleep right in my salad..

I also happens at about 8 o'clock at night..I feel so sleepy almost like a narcolepsy..I fight it so that I can have some free time in the evening..
I thought it was the Neurontin and it very well could be..maybe it's just the RSD...
I am just wondering if your body is catching up from the incredible ordeal you had with your meds, with the airport and all the traveling and emotional upheaval for the last couple of months...or perhaps a delayed, accumulative reaction from the meds..

Please take good care, and I hope you get some answers soon!

Hi Dew,
I'm sure sorry about the jerking, dropping things and the body pain/ache
is bad here too. I had the jerking for several years, but don't have it now. But, RSD is an autonomic disorder, which means the involuntary organs are affected. For me, it was usually while relaxing-watching tv my legs arms would just fly around. And going to sleep, or even be sound asleep, legs would fly up head would jump right off the pillow. I was on 3200 mg of neurotin for a long time and it all went away. And about 9 months ago when I started going off the meds slowly, they didn't come back. I've had a couple of spells, but that's all. I'm not affected by the dropping things. I do stumble and run into things more.
But I have read several posts here from our RSD friends, and many of them have these problems.
How are you doing? Meds straightened out?Glad you have attorney to lead the way, although I know you do your research. How's is Wanda? Back to work isn't she. I know she feels good about that, but probably wore out until she builds her stamina up.
I've been enjoying the US Tennis match. Laura and I went to it in 98 for 12 days. Was so much fun.
Take care of yourself. Did I tell you I got a ticket last month. They put up two new red lights on scottsdale rd. I didn't go thru it or didn't even go under it. I stopped and backed up3-4 feet. When I pulled over(I knew he was behind me) I wondered why I was stopped. He said-red light. And I kindly said, but I didn't go thru it or even under it. He said, but you crossed the white line. We had pulled into shopping center to get out of traffic. But I called the city the next day and asked them when they painted the white stripes. They gave me the date, supposed to fax it over. I knew there wasn't a white line painted yet. So I'm hoping to get that excused, as they hadn't painted it yet. 2nd ticket in my life. It could go either way,but I'd rather have a couple massages than pay the ticket. smile
Boy, we have been having 114,so hot, but starting to cool down.Take care. Your AZ buddy, loretta

Linda Lady,
I do think that you're going through something that we all do.
Sleep Transomnia.
You're Actually falling asleep, during the day!
Before they take your license, please, take action!

I have it! And,, I got a sleep study, I got a sleep machine for sleep apnea.
I have other friends, (RSD) who have BiPap machines.
It's not a big deal.
But, your Doc must write for a sleep study.
Have S/him, S/her do it! (was that right?) ?????? Oh, S/he!
Anyway, you go in, overnight,
they provide a super comfy hotel room, comfy....
And, you can watch tv til around midnight.

So, do it!
just some of those little sticky sensors, and one or two on your legs.
just a couple.

And, then they'll try you on the BPap or CPap machine. (Maybe)

See how it goes!?

Sleep,
is such an important/ vital part of our lives, that you may not realize it.
You CANNOT FIGHT IT!
Remember, you fell asleep on our conversation a couple times tonite!

Not good, sweety!

This will help you get better sleep / rest.
And, you'll feel like a new person during the day!

Rock it out Girl!

Pete

I have rsd in my hand/arm/shoulder and I drop things alot. I have a tremor that can be pretty mild to just down right shaking, also get twitches but just in my arm. Sometimes they are painful but other times I don't even notice. I have generally good function of my arm but poor fine motor skills in my hand, I do try to pick things up with it and I try to use it as much as possible but the more I do the worse the pain and swelling gets. I am tired all the time but haven't fallen asleep like you described. I have a very hard time getting to sleep and staying asleep at night and have to nap during the day though. I find that I am really only functional for half a day, then I am shot. Not sure if it's the pain or meds or both. I don't think my family "gets it", I feel useless but that's another topic. I hope this gets better for you.

Please be careful and speak to your Dr. Hope you have a low pain weekend.
