I have the same problem, and the only way I found to make it less painful, is sit in the back and let someone else drive. Even car rides are tough, so that is a real good question.
I have a hard time finding people to drive, so I wind up driving more than I care to. I wish my wife would learn, but she has a fear of all the cars around her.

Hi!!
If you aren't the one driving and its the bumps that bother you.... What I used to do before I was even driving, I would have my parents put pillows down behind my back, under my legs, and feet and anywhere to almost act like shock absorbers... NOW, if you have to be the one driving, I (if I really don't feel good but still have to drive) put a pillow under my butt and take frequent stops to just get out of the car or just to rest my feet and not have to keep using my foot. (mine is my right leg so pushing on the brake and gas hurts on a bad day)... BUT I hope that is at some point to help someone

PILLOWS PILLOWS PILLOWS! They are your FRIENDS!
I agree that you should gather the softest smooshiest ones you have, take them from your parents, siblings, everyone....everywhere....and have someone help tuck you in so you cant move when the car turns or goes over bumps. That's usually when I hurt the most when in a flare. Amazingly, I feel better when i'm the driver, cuz I feel more "in control" of myself for some reason. But as the passenger, I feel more "wobbly" like I have less control over my body, so pillows are awesome. And....ifit's a really long drive, hopefully be nice and tired, and wear some earphones and listen to music annd hopefully you can sleep for most of the ride. Take pain meds about an hour before you get in the car, or do whatever it is that you do to make yourself feel a bit better, and get a tad more relief.

Abbie,
I am late to this thread, so I don't know if my idea will help at all, but a thought popped into my head when I read your post... Would it be possible to call the local school bus company and ask them if they have any drivers who have a day off who would be willing to volunteer their time to drive your car for you? School bus drivers are usually very good drivers and the vast majority of school bus companies do criminal background checks and all that stuff - so calling them to ask for a volunteer could help find a good driver who is a safe and responsible person. Another thought would bo a local cab company - again asking for a volunteer to drive your car for you (or even asking specifically for a female volunteer if you would be uncomfortable with a strange man). I know it's an unusual idea, but there are good people in the world who would be willing to volunteer their time and energy, and calling the school bus company or even the cab company might help you to find a good person who is also a good driver who would be willing to volunteer their time and energy. Take care, Liz
