Default Varicose veins

Im at the 1yr mark with RSD, Ive seen it progress from my right heel to the the oposite heel and progress up both legs , but it more prominate on the original leg, it has gone into both hips and the small of my back. Recently [about a month ago] Ive noticed smal varicose veins in both my feet abd the sides of the ankles, more so on the outside of the ankles, Now ive noticed that the right leg[original leg]the outer shine and outer calf is really bad,,they are not big veins but a large patch of smaller ones, some patches are are in a 4-6 inch diameter,,but ,they are also all over the lower legs spaced out too,,,Im not over weight [6ft 190lb], and im staying as active as possible,,,in my mind its has to be the rsd,,ive not ever had anyveins in my legs until rsd,,I do know and am aware that RSD does affect not only the submotors[sweating ] but vasamotors as well[circulation,,] I know some people have alot of swelling in their limbs,,i have some mild swelling on the r-ankle , but the variccose veins are getting worse[spreading] I keep a low salt diet, stay moving, exercise, and try not to stand long ....any help and stories would be very appreciated,,,,,,and I do use compressing socks too..Thank you ,,, bobber

Ever since my shoulder surgery (I have type II with documented plexus damage) that started this mess, the veins on the back of my hand and especially the forearm can become very distended (along with moderate swelling of my forearm) and to where that region hurts a lot; usually all of this occurs during a flare-up. Also since the surgery and not at all explainable by my surgeon and still remains a mystery, is my distal radial artery, only on the affected side, for about 4-5 cm visibaly and boundingly pulsates. It also hurts over this area too. The palmar portion of my wrist is now shiny and I am certain that the hair on my arm is longer now too. Neat. Maybe I can go as a transitioning werewolf next halloween!

Anyone notice visable pulse changes too?

Hi Bobber, Nice to hear from you. I'm sorry about the veins. If you go to the pictures, several look like what you describe. Circulation is one of our problems and swelling, as this is an autonomic disorder. Low salt is good, and my dr. says drink a lot of water. I've responded best to water therapy, swimming, Water needs to be 86 degrees. Do you have a Y? Some gyms are very reasonable for membership. elevating legs is good too. Hope you are otherwise doing ok. Take care, loretta with soft hugs

Hi Dubious and loretta for your resonses,,,everything is helpfull,it not only helps us to physicaly deal with it , but mentally too,, Its nice to hear from you two,,,dubious you can believe that shiny skin is RSd,ive two legs that look like they have either been polyurethane'd or have beed clear coated by someone while i was sleeping. As for the pulse,,Mine is a little higher but that could be from lack of activity,,but what scares me is my Diastolyc number sometimes goes higher and then theres days that both my bloodpressurennumber are really low,,,,,And loretta,,,Ive not been in the pool for a few months,,but it does feels good and it does seem to help as long as i know when to get out before over doing it,,i enjoy the aqua jogging,,,Ive notice too that after i get out of the pool and shower off[shower water is warmer than the pool,] my feet and ankles turn black and purple [moving around] likie a lava lamp,,but calm down soon after im out of the water,,,thank you both for your replies....may the lord give you both a remission,,,,,,,bobber

Hi all....

I just noticed the otherday, rather my friend pointed out the my blood pressure on the top is a 144/72.... she remarked that was high..Diastolyic number on top??? Then at times my blood pressure is like 120's over 50's...

I also have the purple yuck color show while i shower ecahday..and the shiny scheme is very pormianat in my worst affected lef. I believe that was part of the diagnosistic tool used by my Dr. when he told me I had RSD.

How about the red dots...do you get them? Small red dots that appear seems to be on the infected area.. They resemble blood blisters... but not lesions per say as they come and go on their own...First I noticed them on my legs but now they are on my belly even..Belly what would that mean? Internal RSD????

Thanks and Happy New Year my friends..KS

Hey Bobber, My dr is looking into the varicous vein thing as I have them when I am having a flare. I am at the beginning of a flare because my beloved Mountaineers lost in football and basketball today. I know the stress of the excitement gets my RSD all stirred up, but it's the price that I have to pay sometimes. My veins swell in my foot so right now I have it up on the couch and hopefully it will calm down.

Hey Bobber..

Good morning... How are you feeling today?? I can for certain that our red dots are not attributed to the meds as I am not on anything..I have an extra sensitive belly so I can not take anything..cold turkey, my friend...I have noticed they don't go away very easily and they have spread everywhere...Yes, this disease does suck!!
Hugz to you ...KS

My RSD spread to my right leg last spring, about 10 or 11 months after it was finally diagnosed. (My original site is my right brachial plexus - which is shoulder, neck and occipital region of my head). The varicose veins in my right leg are nasty looking, so I usually keep the leg covered so no one can see it. The whole leg is more swollen than the other one, and during the summer it hurt so badly I had difficulty sleeping. The 5 lidocaine infusions I've had, and one lumbar block, have helped quite a bit with the pain by now, but not much with the swelling. When I saw Dr. Getson in the beginning of December and he tested the temp of my limbs, the right leg was a hotter than the left.

Because my veins are so bad, I've had 2 doppler ultrasounds to check for DVT's - one in the summer and one about 3 mths ago. During the last one, the Tech told me that she had never seen so many big fat veins in such a small leg before (I'm 5'3" and fairly thin). She noted that the varicosities were blocked and had been replaced with other veins that were pretty big and wide. The test was really painful because the wand needed to be applied forecfully to my leg in order to get a good reading. After all of that, due to my RSD, my PCP recommended that the blocked veins (varicosities) not be removed because it would involve making incisions in the affected area.

I also have those little purple veins you described around my ankles. And the color changes. As a matter of fact, the very time my leg changed color I was working outside in the garden and had shorts on and my daughter noticed it and told me. I didn't even know! And the other day my husband pointed it out to me in the morning. We've had a off and on snow showers for a number of days so I am flaring a bit.

I am grateful that the lidocaine helped relieve a lot of the leg pain, so it's not as bad as it was (I wish that the infusions had been a more successful with my head). But it still looks awful. And my left leg is becoming very uncomfortable quite often. It still looks normal, aso I am ignoring the pain for now! I walk a lot unless its too cold out.

Good luck to you. XOXOX Sandy

hey keep smilin
when it comes to blood presure. [diastyloc] number is the BOTTOM number, and is the one that you really dont want to get too high,,its the worst of the two numbers. and the red dots could be a allergic reation to meds, exspecially when the liver gets over worked, but I get them when im off meds too,
Cindi ,let us know what your dr says his take is in on the varicose veins,
and sandy, my veins just poped up out of nowhere, and they started in the outside of my feet and ankles and are spreading upward,,both legs now,,and their in bunches, clusters,,I feel like an old man at the age of 49,,before this mess last year i was in pretty good shape,,but Ive ask God to give me strenght and to heal us ,,and to help us fight this, and to guide us on what to do,,,,,I do stay as active as possible during the day,and to stay away from alot of the meds..When im on alot of meds, they tend to make me lazy and unactive,,I want my life back,,,so im going to Pray,,and fight,,,bless all of you,,,,,,,,,,,bobber
