Question Make-up/Foundation Recommendations to help with sweating symptom of RSD?

Hi Peoples!

Thanks to my RSD going into overdrive lately, I now sweat my make-up off as soon as I put it on, so I was wondering if any of you ladies (or men, lol ) have found a foundation that can cope with this symptom so you don't have to keep re-applying your make-up a thousand times a day?

I know this all sounds really vain and it's a small problem I have in the big scheme of things, but I'm in my early thirties and my medications give me really bad skin as it is, so I just want to look nice and feel good about how I look, even if my body is far from normal in other ways... that's not too much to ask, is it?!

Even if I put my make-up on in front of the air-conditioner, I sweat my foundation off as soon as I leave the room. I've just bought a small hand-held fan (as I'm always having to wave a magazine/piece of paper in front of my face to cool me off) and that's helping a bit, but I think I need to look at trying other types/brands of foundation.

So can anyone recommend a good foundation (liquid or powder) that can handle a bit of sweat and not come off as soon as you put it on?

I don't mind how much it costs- I'm spending a fortune on foundation now because I have to keep re-applying it all day!

x Kate

Hi Kate,

Do you know anyone in show business? Actors, singers, make-up artists etc... They would probably use the strong stuff needed to hold up under the hot lights and may have a suggestion for you. Just a thought.

Great suggestion! I was thinking the same thing. Even though I don't wear makeup at the office (LOL) I used to when I was on stage as a musician or actor.

You could probably find theatrical makeup on line with a little research. Be aware, though, that stage makeup often has exaggerated color, because the stage lights tend to wash out color intensity. That is why actors wear heavy mascara, so you can see their eyes. So, you may want to go a little softer in your hue than you normally would.

I use Maybellines Super Stay Makeup Foundation and I have found that this foundation stays on even when I have my sweating fits. I will say that the foundation is pretty thick and cakey so I tame it down with a dab of lotion (I use the sensitive skin Olay lotion) and mix them together and then I apply it. The lotion helps the makeup to be absorbed and then you get a more natural look. Even with taming the foundation down the foundation stays on all day. Sweating has nothing on this foundation, I guarantee.

Hi Kate, I found foundations that stay on thru sweating tend to look cakey and accentuate any lines. I used suntanning spray(neutrogena light so it doesnt really look tan) just to give me a little color so if foundation did come off, my skin tone was all one shade. (I was doing my face and neck) It would last a couple of weeks. I also found clean & clear dual action moisturizer worked well when my skin was breaking out. Hope this helps! momof4

Default Hi,

I buy Loreal Visible lift. It's an 18 hour makeup and I really like it. It does stay and looks good too.

Companies are coming out with some good ones now that do last all day. It's just finding the one that works for each person.

I have used this one for a year now and I like it better then the others. I'm just surprised at how much this stuff cost anymore and the containers are smaller now.

I'm picky about my makeup too. I don't think it's vein, I just think if you look good, it makes you feel better.

I will ask my daughter what they use. I know only a few well know store (like Macys) sell it. She is a SAG member and has her masters in the fine arts. She deals with this all day 8 shows a week.

Hugs

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I never thought of stage make-up but that's definitely worth looking in to. I know I can get the Loreal and Maybelline products down in my corner of the world, so I might start with trying them first.

You guys are all smart cookies, aren't you?!

Hi Cake,

I started wearing make-up about a year ago (I seemed to get bad spots when I developed RSD so had to use it) and I always had the same issues as you with most foundations. One of my mums friends recommended a mineral foundation by MAC though and it works really well. It's in a small tub and it goes on like a powder so it doesn't make your face as sweaty/greasy and stays on well when you get really hot. It's a little bit expensiver then some of the liquid foundations but it works well for me (and my mum also).

I hope you find something that works and get to feeling better soon!

Alison.

Default Hi Cake,

You aren't very old so powder would work for you. Powder for older people seem to cake up in the wrinkles and make them look older. I heard that on TV and I have noticed it's true for me so I stay away from the powders.

Also on the Avon, ask for samples. They will give you some to try the foundations out. I haven't found any Avon makeup that last or looks good. My Avon dealer says the same. It just seems to be missing something that works good. They also are buying cheaper stuff these days and their products aren't as good. I grew up with Avon and I do still buy from them occasionally. I ordered some watches for the kids for Christmas from Avon. Even their jewelry isn't made as good. I have several pieces that have broken in no time at all. My Avon lady says they are getting their clothes from a cheaper place also and the sizes aren't right and they don't look as good. I do have some Avon clothes here but I have sent many of them back due to them being cheapmade.

Back to the makeup though, ask for samples of it if you want to try it.

You might also go to Kohls, I believe they have makeup ladies that help you pick the makeup that works for you.
