Default Go to the ER or Wait? Not sure what to do - I so hate my life

Hi everyone

I am an emotional wreck right now. I thought I would post here but can't type much..my hand is colder than ice right now.

Yesterday I started going down hill and fast. Every half hour I needed to go to the bathroom, I felt so dizzy and was having chest pains that would come and go. I started having trouble talking and when I talked, I would have trouble breathing and swallowing then chest pains with my heart racing. I have had no appetite and don't want to drink or eat anything. I went home and checked my blood pressure again. It was 149/93 and then checked my temperature which was 99.7. I was so out of it also. I couldn't think straight and I was talking weird and writing backwards. I called the Doctor's office and of course it was late on a friday and everyone was gone. I got the nurse who was there and she told me I should go to the ER and they would page my Doctor. She said it is the weekend though..which we all know that NOTHING happens on a weekend. She told me to call my primary Doctor to see if they have a suggestion as well regarding my symptoms. I called my primary and the Doctor got on the phone (my chart has me flagged as a "special case") ..sheesh but anyways the Dr said something is definitely wrong and I really should go to the ER. She told me that I could go to a local ER instead of driving to philly but she can guarantee they won't touch me with a ten foot pole and just send me to philly anyways.

My husband wasn't to keen on driving to philly on a friday night knowing nothing will be done. I layed down and fell asleep. I slept from 8 pm to 9 am this morning. I woke up quite dizzy and tired. I took my blood pressure and it was 148/90 and I'm still running a temp of 99.7. Still having trouble swallowing and have no appetite. When I stand up, I get dizzy and chest pains especially if I move and also talk. It's so weird. I have terrible neck pain and it's going down my arms. My hand is so cold and purple.

I don't want to rush to the ER and sit all weekend in a hospital. I have a Dr appt scheduled for Wednesday morning but I'm not sure I can wait that long. I'm thinking I should go to the ER first thing Monday unless things get much worse over the weekend.

I don't know what to do really. I've been crying and so mad. I don't want another surgery which I forsee in the near future. My cpine MRI shows a disc pushing right into the spinal cord. 2 Discs are buldging and it looks like the spinal fluid may not be flowing right. Just peachy! With RSD ..surgery is NOT good. I am so upset because I have been through hell! I had 2 major surgeries in one year..been through every treatment under the sun and now have RSD in the worst stages which they also think is causing osteoporosis which is probably why I have these spine problems. I can't win. I really can't. Does anyone know where I can get a body transplant?

I'm so tired of all this. I honesly don't know what to do and should I go to the ER or just wait it out.

I don't have RSD but felt I had to respond to this post. Please......go to the ER! Your blood pressure is high and chest pains are nothing to blow off. If your husband won't take you please call another friend or family member and ask for a ride. You have so many differing symptoms that it's impossible to determine which is causing what.....but it definitely sounds like you need medical attention. I hope you'll go.

[cspine MRI shows a disc pushing right into the spinal cord.]

what level is the c spine at?

if you know the level c3 c4 c5 c 6 etc?
it can be looked up on a dermatome chart to see it it might be the cause of the arm symptoms ve heart probs - but BP is very high...

some of that high BP could be stress & anxiety related

I'll post some dermatome charts shortly

well I couldn't find a chart that I really liked - I liked but i did find this - it shows what area of the body is affected at the various levels of the spine.
http://www.echiropractic.net/nervechart.htm

Local hosp will at least check for heart problems I would think - or they may choose to transport you to philly, but you might have to pay if ambulance .

how far away is philly?

Dear Momzpeachy, Have you seen a psychologist or psychiatrist? Some things in life, we need medical help for our emotions and mental well-being.
I saw a pspychologist for over 2 years at the death of my parents-young 46 yrs-Mom and 59- Dad. I'm so so grateful that I did that. Then 20 years later I got RSD following surgery. When it went full body, my neuro recommended I see a psychiatrist. I didn't like his 2 recommendations, or him for that matter, so I looked at the yellow pages and found a gem. I've been seeing him 5-6 years now. He is not only a psychiatrist, but neurologist, and pharmacologist-the perfect combination. I'm so grateful and have been helped immensely. One thing that has helped me -is being on the right medications. I sleep now, so have been able to lower pain meds. I've learnd coping skills, I'm mobile because of his pt recommendations. I've learned to meditate, visualize
Hang in there- sympathetic nervous system increases blood pressure, para sympathetic nerv. system lowers blood pressure. HBOT helps circulation. My Dr. just built two clinics with HBOT in each. The Florida VA just put in 16 HBOT to help the veterans with amputations, RSD and limbs.
Please get the best Drs. you can. Swimming is so good 86 degree water.
light massage therapy, physical therapy. lorazepam is an anti-anxiety med and helps tremendously keep our system calm. Have you checked into Bio Feedback. There are many methods we can use to bring peace and calm to our bodies. There are tapes, books, at the bood stores and libraries to help us learn these methods. Creative Hobies-number painting, songs, music is a wonderful way to keep our minds distracted.
Please know I care as well as all our friends here. Take care, loretta with soft hugs

Default Go to the ER

I know that going to the ER can be a hit or miss with getting the treatment you need. However, since your blood preasure is so high they will have to treat you and trust me they will. I had a similuar experience and I waited four days before going to the ER because in the past I have gone and they would tell me there is nothing they can do. One of the only times I had good treatment at the ER was when I had the high blood preasure. I promise you that they will give you medicine to calm down the high blood preasure. Once you B.P is treated you will finally be able to sleep. Reason being, when you have high B.P. it is nearly imposible to sleep and sleep depreivation only makes everything worse. I hope you take everyones advice and go to the ER because in this case waiting till Monday increases your chances of having additional complications. You are in all our thoughts and I hope you feel better soon.
XOXO

Default In Pain but Trying To Wait Til Monday

Thanks Everyone for your replies

I have been trying to stick it out til Monday since nothing happens on weekends at hospitals and all my Doctor's will be there tomorrow. I drank a few glasses of wine last night which dropped my blood pressure some. I am in so much pain though. My neck, shoulder and upper back are killing me! Nothing helps the pain. I am ok when sitting but when I stand I feel like falling over and I'm so nautious I feel like throwing up. Everything is spinning and I am so weak. It's hard to walk and lift my arms and hands. My hands are so cold it's awful. I can't get warm. I woke up this morning and my bp was 148/92 first thing. It's been consistent til just now. It lowered to 123/85...weird! I know something is really wrong but I want my Dr's to see me and figure this out and get me fixed ASAP! I totally hate ER's ..been there..done that! Last time I went, I was admitted for 4 days with all sorts of tests. Usually they can't figure anything out and I guess that's what I'm afraid of. I really don't want to be in the hospital and I really really dont want another surgery! I am so weak. I have a Dr appt scheduled on Wed morning so I thought about waiting but not sure I should. I am attaching some photos of my C Spine MRI...see what you think...to me it doesn't look good.

Hi Momz,
I just want to say hi again. Was thinking of you all day. I'm so sorry you are going thru these awful stages. There is a lot of good information under Dr. Hooshmands website. He is retired now, but left his website up and his practice is being taken care of by another Dr. in Florida. It's rsdrx.com
Under the section called puzzles-it's 147 questions about RSD and his answers. There is a lot of technical questions. About losing our taste for food. blood pressures issues. body temperature issues. internal organs with RSD.
I've had trouble breathing, and that is no fun. downright scary. I have found the more I lay around, the worse I feel. If I force myself to walk and even go up and down the stairs-I get more energy and feel better. Swimming is my favorite- I think I'll joing the swim club again. I have to really push myself-it's so much easier to lay in bed all day.
When we can identify what is upsetting us, the better chance we have to couneract it. I've gain weight since I went full body and miss sports activity. So the swimming and walking, & pool exercise I'm going to committ myself to a increasing gradual schedule.
Please let us know you are getting medical help and how things turn out. We all care for you here, your friend, loretta with soft hugs
