Hi Deb,
Here's a good description of the pathophysiology of bone pain from Wikipedia. Quote:

Hey deb
Yes ,RSd does deterorate bone density,,thats one reason why they encourage us to move,,the nerve damage that RSD causes, trys to shut down that limb for deteroration, but by forceing movement,we prolong the bone loss,,but to directly answer you question,,,The dr;s recommend a BONE SCAN....I had one and it show how much bone loss thru out my feet and hip and shoulders and pelvic , that im loseing,,It also shows hots spots,,meaning infected areas, that you may not even feel pain in yet,,It is a good dignostic test to help prove you have RSD to who ever doesnt believe you,,,,As for the meds,,The morphine sulfate release 15 mg ,,didnt help me,but I thought that {cake] on this forum was getting relief from it,,oxycotin and methadone are said to help..I dont have those,,but I as well as {fmichael} get relief from anti depressant for break thru pain,,,,xanx will bring my pain from an 8 to 6 everytime, { .05 mg], |

During my (early) days of rsd, before I got some real meds, I explained rsd pain like this, quickly; Your bone marrow feels as though it's on fire, your skin feels as though it's in a blast freezer. I take methadone, (Have for almost 20 years), and it controls that deep bone burning pain very well. I'm not a doctor, you need your doctor to verify what is causing the pain, and as is usual with rsd, rule other things out. Then, carry on with medication. Wish you the best! PM me if you wish.. Debbie
I had severe bone pain when I first got RSD... it continued for a few years, then gradually went away. My Rheumatologist prescribed Miacalcin Nasal Spray (Calcitonin) .... hope I spelled those right... anyway, it took a few weeks to get the full effect, but it made a huge difference in my "deep bone pain". Hi Jules,
Now that you mention the calcitonin I remember that when I was taking it my bone pain was less intense. I stopped taking it because I developed sensitivities to the nasal spray and would have horrible sneezing fits. Perhaps I should give it a try again. Tks MsL
