Heart Has my RSD/CRPS spread?

Hi everyone,

I'm not usually a whiner, but yesterday was really a rough one for me. My condition started in my left hand and (forearm July 2009) from two failed surgery to place plates and screws in my ulnar bone, and thumb. The last surgery being Feb 2010 (thumb). Moving ahead a bit, yesterday morning I went for a walk, four miles in total. Came back home everything seen find. Later that day I had some things to do that keep me walking for quite a while.

Last night I was awaken to the worse cramps in my left foot ever. My toes were spasming so bad that my son had to pry apart the large toe from the second toe. He held it like that until it stopped, at the same time my right shin muscle was tightening up as well. There was no burning, no swelling just bone crushing pain and spasms. He quickly got one of the Savella pills for me to take. Before the medicine took hold. I had at least three or four more bouts of spasms. This morning it's not so bad, but I have this weird kind of tightness in m left foot like it will start spasming at any minute.

Also I keep getting these cramps like they kind you get when you are about to have your period, or just starting to go into labor. Funny thing is I don't have a uterus any longer, but I went to the bathroom to make sure I wasn't having my period. Please help has it spread?

Maybe not. My wife has RSD not myself but I've had bad cramps in my feet and legs. It sounds like may be your muscles got a good workout and you're feeling the effects, hopefully? It could also be a lack of vitamin E.

Hi Lefty, Sometimes bananas help with leg cramps and such. They are great sources of potassium. I have to keep them on hand in the winter to keep cramps away. This is just a suggestion, but maybe it will help you a little bit. Feel better, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Are you feeling a little better today...I hope so. Did you get my PM? Thanks for the suggestion of the bananas. The only thing is I don't like them can you imagine?

Thanks for suggesting vitamin E., because I don't like bananas. I'll try vitamin E.

I found this article. I was thinking that maybe potassium is what is in bananas that might help leg cramps. It turns out that I was right, but there are some other suggestions for supplementation also. It doesn't mention vitamin E, but it has many other suggestions.

A mineral deficiency of calcium and/or magnesium is probably the most frequent cause of night leg cramping.

Cramps are often caused by a lack of potassium, resulting in an electrytic imbalance. Strenuous exercise with sweating and diarrhea or other bowel disease may cause loss of potassium and other important minerals. It is very important to replace them with supplements. Some people get leg cramps at night for no apparent reason. This is called restless legs syndrome.

Another cause may be a deficiency in hesperidin, one of the bioflavonoids (sometimes called vitamin P), naturally occurring nutrients usually found in association with vitamin C. These bioflavonoids, including Hesperidin, Citrin, Rutin, Flavones, Flavonals, Calechin and Quercetin, were found to be essential in correcting the night leg cramps.
I hope you find some relief soon.

Default Cramps

Lefty

If you live where it is 100 + degrees you need to drink gallons for water to stop the cramping in the middle of the night. Your muscles need the water during the day so at night you don't get those really painful muscles spasms. And yes bananas help as well. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I really do drink a lot of water...love the stuff! I haven't had any cramping like before. I did go the gym and did a thirty minute walk on the treadmill, and 30 in the pool. Now that I'm home...boy..oboe my left arm is really hurting. But I need to keep things moving. Maybe, I'll just do 15 minutes at a time. This really sucks because I was use to lifting weights, and power walking. I often watch senior citizens getting along better than me, and I'm...well lets just say I remember watching show 'Flipper," on TV.
