i have internal RSD it occured after a gallbladder operation. my abdomen swelled up 30lbs. an ER doctor put me on prednisone and the inflamation melted off of me untill i tapered the dose and it all came back. long story short...i have a herniated disc in my back from all the fluid on the front of me. i have tried many times to get off the prednisone but when i due i swell more and my disc hurts. i am stuck at 30mgrs a day and cant get off of it until they find a drug to stop my swelling. i had another surgery done a few years ago to remove 25lbs of the swollen tissue and i swelled up even more, i have 70lbs of swelling on my abdomen now. on some people prednisone puts weight on them, its opposite on me.

That is just unbelievable. I hope you are feeling ok and I'm complaining? Just an FYI my grandmother many years ago was on prednisone for 8 years I don't remember the dose and it was for a breathing issue or infection in the lungs it was back in the 80's and I was around 19 so I don't remember to much. But she is alive and well, except for the demantia, at 94 and lives with my Aunt. Prednisone gets a bad rap but many people take it for long periods I don't quite understand. I'am going to have a conversation about this with my PM doctor on Monday at my appt. Hope I can make it it's about an 1 to sometimes a 2 hours drive. I believe it weakens the immune system?

I agree that prednisone can help with the pain, but another serious side effect can be osteoporosis, or the worsening of it. Since my RSD started with a bone fracture, I get really nervous about taking anything that will weaken my bones even more. Lisa
