Well...I did today. I went to see my new pain doctor that I was referred to by my original pain doctor after complications from my last 2 LSBs. She was very nice...but was totally appalled at my condition and told me I needed to be admitted to a hospital in the city or Mayo Clinic immediately. She asked me several time (probably because I seemed so calm) if I understood what she was telling me...there is something seriously wrong with me and I need a full work up and that I needed to have my primary care doctor refer me for hospitalization.

Ummm...it's been a hellish month and some since I had the last block that caused all these problems (or triggered all these problems as the neurologist said). So I KNOW there is something seriously wrong with me...but to see it from a third party's point of view...a pain doctor of all things...

I've never seen a doctor freak out like that. She just kept shaking her head and telling me that there was something seriously wrong with me. That threw me for a loop that I am still reeling from 8 hours later. She was completely appalled at my condition and it freaked me out that she was so freaked out.

I still don't really know what to say...but I called my primary care doctor and left a message about the pain doctor's recommendation (which she said she was faxing over to him). Hope he calls back tomorrow because I'm actually getting scared now. Hard to keep that positive outlook when a doctor freaks out and freaks you out...I've just never seen a doctor act like that. And I saw her interact with other patients and nurses and she didn't seem like the sort of person who is prone to act that way.

Anyway...this ever happen to anyone else??

What exactly was she so distressed about?
Did she mention any particular reasons?

are you emaciated? bloated?
Is your color poor, oxygen levels poor?
are you in spasms and contorted?
sores? bruises?
extreme pain level?

Just trying to understand her reaction and comments.

Since my second LSB (which was done after I told the doc that I was having back/neck pain after the first) I have had my skin on my entire back and neck get super sensitive to the touch and puffy...which over the course of a few days spread to my shoulders, upper arms, sides, stomach, and thighs...got a serious headache, my spine is sore constantly in an achey sort of way, my vision is messed up sometimes (blurry and double vision), I am totally uncoordinated and can't tell where my feet are going so I need to use a walker, I'm having hallucinations, extreme dizziness, and more problems than I even got to mention plus the pain level is through the roof. All this...and I am 27 years old.

Apparently my condition just left her appalled. It's not like I didn't know it was serious, and I have been frustrated that I have had to wait weeks between appointments with different docs while I get worse and worse on an almost daily basis...but the other docs didn't seem as concerned about it like it needed IMMEDIATE attention. So I thought it was just normal frustration with "the system." But this pain doc thinks there is something wrong with my brain stem and that I need a full work up...NOW. Which makes sense because a lot of the things people have told me about which have these symptoms are things that, if caught early, can be cured...but if they're not caught early then they can have lasting effects. And...just for the record...I'd rather not see dogs that have been dead for years walking around my house for the rest of my life. I don't feel crazy...but a lot of these things ARE crazy. I look like a "drunkard" when I walk according to the pain doc...which btw is TERRIBLE for my RSD ankle.

Forgot to mention that my heart rate has been between 120-150 every time I go to the doctor. They've ruled out stuff like blood clots and stuff as the cause...think it's just because of the pain. But what is THAT going to do to my body?

Wow , yes sounds like a thorough work up is needed , I hope they do a good job for you when you go.
It does sound like a reaction of some sort...

It is frustrating that so many drs are specialized and don't even want to look at the whole picture... sometimes the whole picture is needed before narrowing it down to a specialist..

If they don't "find" anything...or can't offer any treatment..

I'm happy to read your new pm dr would like to have you admitted to the hospital for an extensive work up. I know it is scary when a dr tells you that you have to go in as I have been in & out of the hospitals so many times in the last 4 years I lost count.
I have had to go in and out of the hospital so many times over the years and I can remember how terrifing it can be. However, the Dr's need to rule out other conditions that could be causing the new symptoms. Even after a person is diagnosed with CRPS, it is important that when new Heath symptoms show up the Dr's rule out other serious illnesses as the root cause.
I think it sounds like you are on the right track and may benefit from going to the hospital. You probably should have been admitted a month ago since you need tests run and better pain management. Please keep the group posted and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm not sure I'd call that "freaking out" (but of course I wasn't there). What may have happened is that you stumbled upon one of those exceedingly rare physicians who really cares about their patients (instead of just paying lip service). If so, and time will tell, she will most likely be a "keeper".

Out of curiosity, how old is she? (Wondering if she's young & idealistic)

I'm terrible at guessing ages...but I think she is either in her 30s or early 40s.

And she really seemed "freaked out"...constantly shaking her head and saying oh my god and so forth. But I agree...I think she will be a keeper because she really did seem to care and her concern was genuine.

A doc should never say "oh my god"- But like the rest said maybe she is just concerned.....
