Has anyone gone to therapy/counseling for depression from the effects RSD has had on your life? My mom suggested it, and I'm thinking she is right, but not sure where to look.

Yes!!!! I would love to find one that I connected with. I know it helps so many people. I saw one that I really didnt connect with but she gave me some great advice, and its a great outlet for us to just vent to rather than it being our loved ones or friends... we could get it out there and then talk about other things otherwise. Also, I am looking for one (I am christian) So preferably Christian, and just a personality that you get along with. The one I saw was very harsh and pushy and it just made me close up and want to give her attitude LOL
One other thing that i REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY recommend is biofeedback (neurofeedback). It helps me learn to relax and how to get control of my body when I am in large amounts of pain, or when I am just in pain, or in a room full of noise, or bright lights... It helps me close my eyes and learn how to calm my central nervous system down. AND I must say, all you have to do is sit there and watch any video as your brain is doing th work, refreshing from the agony of normal rsd therapy. And when you leave you will want to take a nice nap and feel so relaxed and wonderful! Definately a recommendation. |

I have done a lot of therapy from individual, support groups, biofeedback, seeing a pyschiatrist and also psychologist. I do think that it can help one cope with their health condition, anxiety, and work on ways to improve depression. I feel it is important to work with someone who deals with people who have chronic physical health conditions. So if you see someone I encourage that. As my pain doctor said one can't suffer in pain for so long and it not have a mental impact. He is right.

Oh your Mom is right!!! Aren't Mom's something?!?!?! I see a very nice counselor due to the impact my RSD has had on my life.... She is wonderful...I say...this is my hour just to chat and I would not trade it for anything in the world....Oh I resisted the first time...went kicking and screaming but after the first time, I let my guard down and have to say she is an important tool to my dealing with this monster of a disease.... She let's me know, Iam not crazy! I suggest asking your Dr. To recommend somebody...Generally they know the good ones.... Hugz for a great day, Kathy ![]() |

Hi
I am currently seeing a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT) for the depression I am experiencing due to my RSD. I am finding it helpful to help me get out of this hole I have found myself in. They can't take away the pain or limitations I now have but they showing me a new way of thinking about them and I am finding my mood is slowly getting better. Pretty much I am not feeling as hopeless as I was a few months ago. Take care, Karen |
