Default More ketamine questions

It looks like I maybe going for an 8 day inpatient ketamine infusion at Rush Hospital in Chicago...Just a few questions

1. Has anyone had an 8 day inpatient ketamine? How did it go?

2 Is 8 days and adnormal time for inpatient infusions?

3 Has anyone tried it at Rush hospital? And how did it go? would you go back?

4 Has anyone had Dr Lubenow do your Ketamine? How was he to work with?

5 How many boosters did you have after the treatment?

6 What was you ultimate outcome with the infusions?

7 Would you do the proceedure again? if not Rush, somewhere else?

Thank you

Hi krank,

I have nerver heard of a 8 day inpatine ketamine infusion. I did 3/5 day inpatient ketamine infusions. When I had the last one he thought I should stay an extra day or 2 but I just wanted to get home. The last was the toughest, but worked the best, why I don't know. I did my in NYC with Dr. Daniel Richman but I have read on this site about Dr. Lubenow and the Rush Institute and it sounds great. I'm sure you'll get feedback about Rush, and Dr. Lubenow. I didn't do the boosters the first time, now that I think back that was a tough one also. But the second and third I did the normal protocal for after inpatient ketamine. First set of boosters 4 hours 2 days in a row after 30 days, second set after 60 and third after 90. Don't quote me exactly on the times I had mine done between 2005-2008. The ultimate outcome was my pain was decreased and most of the RSD symtoms I had decreased tremendously and it has stuck with only 1 or 2, 1 day boosters during 2009 and I have been relatively the same since. I also have PN in the effected area and it did not do anything for that and I do have flares if I over do it, drastic weather changes, stress , the pain and fatique will increase again and then settle down. I did go back to work PT and try and stay on a excercise routine which as helped also. Would I do the procedure again, I would have to get really sick again, and I would only do it with Dr. Richman.

I wish you the best. I thing the key to success with the procedure is ofcourse the doctor, the hospital, how well the nurses/staff are aware of what is going on and the mind set of the patient. I did my procedures at the Hospital for Special Surgery and I had great treatment. My doctor saw me 3 times a day, the nurses new what was going on, I had a private room and it went as smoothly as it could go. I was told to stay calm prior to the treatment, stay calm and as stress free as possible after, treat your body well as far as eating and just try and concentrate on yourself.

Good Luck,

Gabbycakes

My daughter has had ketamine inpatient twice...both times for 5 days (continuous infusion) and then a day before to build up to that level and 2 days after to slowly come down. She has done great with it. She gets boosters as needed. I agree, you have to be calm and go into it with a positive outlook and stay relaxed and focused. She takes an ipod with relaxing music or mediative chants, headphones to block out other noise and sunglasses or eye shades. Nurses are told to leave her alone as much as possible. Afterwards, she takes xanax for a few days to stay calm and relaxed.
