Please help! The only thing I am able to wear right now are slippers. They are not the best for MY feet I can assure you. However, everything else I own is so tight and they make my feet hurt so bad even if I only wear them for just a short time.

If my Doctor wrote me a script are there shoes that one can get that are specially made for really bad feet like mine? I have Peripheral Neurophathy. I know there are great sneakers out there but none seem to help me. I think I need orthoes at this point. I am just not sure how to go about getting them. Any thoughts on the subject? I'm talking about having my feet meaured from soup to nuts. You know, heel to toe. The last time I bought a really good pair of shoes several years ago they cost a arm and a leg. I'm sure the price won't be any better. Plus I think I am a size 14 or 15 with a triple E width or wider but not sure there either. If ya have any ideas drop me a word or two, and as always Mucho Gracios!!!!

I heard that SAS shoes has some really good shoes and they can measure your feet for you too. Or maybe go to a foot speacilist and ask them....

I also can't wear shoes. Slippers are my best friend, but as I do have to leave the house sometimes I asked my Pod surgeon about shoes. He said that Merrells are a good choice. If you have a DSW, gander mt they carry them. I wear a pair of mules that hey make and as I can't have pressure on either the top or the bottom of the foot it is hard to find something. They are not the most fashionable shoes, but they look ok with a pair of jeans. Try them and see how they feel.

I am looking for a rainbow for you fellow. One of my son's had to wear corrective shoes when he was about the age in your photo. It was a Ortho Doc that prescribed them for him.

I have swelling problems in my feet. I have gone from a narrow width to a medium width size shoe. The pumps went out the door a couple years back. I don't have nerve problems in my lower limbs though, just swelling.

Hello Mark: You might try calling a podiatrist's office and when someone answers, ask if there is such a thing as prescription shoes or if (s)he knows of any place where you can buy orthopedic shoes. Good luck, Lil

It didnt even occur to me that the only shoes that I can wear at the moment are my crocs that my brother gave me for christmas. Man my short term memory is going quick.

I have SAS sandals. They were very expensive. They are also the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I get a whole lot of swelling in my legs/ankles/feet and they are perfect for me. I have had the same pair for over a year now and wear them all year long (unless the snow is deep.) Because my toes get so sore I don't like to wear regular shoes. During the winter I just wear good heavy socks with my sandals. LOLOL

The cost may seem prohibitive, however, you should never skimp $ on shoes in my book, and quality seems to last longer. (I'm horribly rough with my footwear)

I wear Birkenstocks and that is all I have worn since 2004. They have a large selection. They are pricey but they last forever. My pain doc told me that I must be careful about the shoes I buy. He said that some companies use cheap glue in their shoes and if you have problems with your feet, the glue can make it worse. I had a problem with a pair of Fila tennis shoes. My feet burned and swelled when I wore them. I don't have that problem with my Birks. I live in Phoenix and we have a store called Good Shoes. It is for people who have problems with their feet. They measure you and properly fit your foot.

in the UK orthotics departments make medical shoes from scratch to make them bigger etc. Have you tried looking at websites and seeing if insurance covers them? Do you need AFO's?

I only wear socks or nothing on my feet because they are too twisted for anything else but I know some people who either have their shoes made by orthotics, cobblers or buy them at specialist stores or wear sandals. I know quite a few RSDers that wear Crocs and swear by them (and great colours!!!) Because of the PN won't you need specialist shoes to overcome the numbness or something? or have I got the wrong disease?

I dunno - I'm not even on the planet at the moment.

Mark, they made shoes for diabetes that have the problems you are having with PN. Most Dr. will write a letter of need for these shoes and medicare allows one pair a year without cost. If not on medicare you can take the cost off your taxes as medical expense. Unless you are like us and do not have enought income to file taxes. I use to be mad about having to pay taxes until I did not have enought income to pay. Now i wish a could cry about all the taxes I had to pay. Oh well, I have enought for my needs, as long as I don't need much LOL. Hope you find the perfect pair of shoes at the perfect price!!! Take care, Carose
