I am legal in Ca. Have been for years. I grow my own and it is truly my best medicine. There are many choices when it comes to TCH content (euphoria) and CBD (analgesia) plus so many other cannabinoids that can really take away certain ailments.
Certain strains are "uppers" so to speak and others can be "downers." It's like any other medication where you have to find what's right for you. There are roots of administration, different forms of cannabis (including concentrates i.e. edibles/hash) doses and frequency of dosing. I would say give it a go. The list of negative side affects are less intimidating than many pharma products.

I'm in CA and discussed it with my doc at one point. The big negs for me were: cost, not interested in smoking since I'm prone to asthma, concerns about federal legalities since I'm receiving SSDI, issues with needing breakthrough meds--awkward in public.
If someone grew their own and didn't travel outside CA at all, it would be a more viable option. And the pain contract issue, and regularly being tested certainly complicates things. |

as far as alcohol.. ohh yes with enough booze it will take the pain away but the side affects can be ...BAAAD if you do not know your limits and if you do not hydrate..

IMHO it does very little to treat any type of nerve pain however for people with chronic pain it is extremely effective in helping with sleep, appetite, and distraction enjoyment.

I hadn't smoked for years. No pain med was working on the burning - no cream, I tried everything - mm was the only thing that helped the burn - just need to be sure u get a good strain cultivated for pain.
With that kind of result I didn't care about the Fed law - the pain was too horrendous. Good luck to you |

I'll chime in here too - I have been legal in Washington since last fall. I was getting tired of the itchiness and constipation whilst on opiates...and in general was not happy with how I felt on them.
One day my massage therapist asked if I wanted to try some THC-infused massage oil on my nerve damaged foot - and it worked so much better than the expensive, custom-compounded cream that my Doc Rx'd me, I have been using it since. Eventually I decided to try smoking as well - and have never looked back. I use a very high CBD strain, that takes most of my nerve pain and allodynia away, yet doesn't make me high like a high THC strain would. After a week or two of regular use, my foot swelling was minimal, my pain/sensitivity was substantially lower, and I have been a MUCH happier person (not to mention I got my libido back)! Since giving it a try, I am now completely off my long-acting ER opiates, and am down to about 1/2 as much as I was on for my IR opiates...and still tapering. It doesn't work for everyone, but it has worked well for me, and worth a shot if you are not happy with your current pain management meds. |
