Hey...
Well, as most of you know I have severe full body RSD and have contractures with most joints especially from t/c spine down. I went to the bathroom today and whilst transferring the controls on my electric wheelchair got hit, smashing at full speed into my left leg and smacking it against the toilet REALLY hard (and I heard a crack). As you can imagine it hurts like F*** now!!! But, I have a huge lump and swelling across the back of the leg, can't move it (that's not a new one!), swelling (again, not a new one), pain, (not a new one), alloydinia (not a new one), black leg (not a new one), spasms (not a new one), hot/ cold stuipidity (again, still, not a new one). So. What do any of you advise? It hurts far too much to get into the car and it hurts far too much to be out of bed so I don't want to get it x rayed if I can avoid it. Do you think I am being too laid back to go "does it matter if it's broken? I am unlikely to ever walk on it again? Oh, I don't know. It's too complicated. Every time I go to A and E they decided I have Muscular Dystrophy and it just makes life too complicated (one time it was "Well.. this is what happens with Muscular Dystrophy. What do you expect us to do?"). So - any advice? Anyone broken anything RSD ish recently? Although I have broken stuff since RSD I havne't broken anything "significant" in a long time and am not sure how to deal with it!!! Thanks!! Loads of Love Frogga (who is feeling very sorry for herself and abit humiliated about developing a toilet related injury). xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

I agree, go now! A broken limb is NOT something that can be ignored, hon...Nerves can become entrapped, or blood vessels. Bone infections occur, too. You could end up losing the limb, and from what I've been told by veterans, phantom limb pain is even worse than rsd. Although how that's possible is beyond me, lol. But go get this looked at, and then let us know later how you are doing. Best of luck!

I did that in rehab when learning how to use mine. The person in the
bed told on me. Everybody signed my cast, sorry you got to go. The use to be ER (Truma) nurse tells me that. That really hurt and you know it. ![]() |

Frogga, PLEASE go to the doctor ASAP to get it x-rayed. If you don't like going to hospitals (I sure don't), try going to an orthopedic doctor. They seem to me a little more knowledgable than the hospital people. And you get in quicker. And its cheaper

Oh Frogga,
Of course you must get it checked out. If it's broken you don't want to leave it too long before getting it looked at; you'll have a much worse time later on if you don't (I realize you can hardly conceive of that, but it's true). The sound of cracking from within the body is never good to hear, LOL...can't think of one instance of it being a positive sign. I am certain you know all this already; just bite the bullet and go see, I *really* hope it turns out to be just a bad bruise and something else made the cracking noise, though, good luck, all the best ![]() |

I'm so sorry! Do you have any nursing friends you could call to sort of "pop in" and take a look, without having to call the rugby team to haul you over hill and dale to the hospital? Great big lumps are not a good sign at all

Frogga--
I know this seems like 'one more thing!' but you do need to go in. Can you arrange for your doctor or one of the nurses that knows you to meet you in the ER (A and E)? If not, maybe they can call over to the ER to fill them in on RSD. I sense that you are wondering why you should bother with the pain etc to get it looked at and fixed. I think about down the road after it heals. Yes, the pain will still be there, yes you might not walk on it, but to help make your transfers better again for you and your care providers etc it will be worth it. You are such an inspiration to so many of us in this community. Please take care and let us know how you are.
