I was rear ended today. Is there anything I can do to ease the whiplash/shoulder pain? Not to mention, my cervical stimulator has gone wanky. It's not really stimulating at the moment. My neck, back, shoulders, well everywhere, are sore. Anyone ever been hit? How did you handle it. This is my first accident. Not sure what to do. Pointers would be great.
Of course, mentally I feel terrible. I mean, I do everything I can to protect myself, my Stims, etc. then a careless person hits me and I can't do anything about it. That's my rant of the day. Says he wasn't texting, but why do you rear end someone going 35 mph unless you're distracted?! Arrrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh.....sorry! I have spent most of the day in tears! TK |

Try a heat pad till you can get into your dr. It might help.

The only thing that the drs did for me after the accidents was give me muscle relaxers and pain meds. The muscle relaxers help with spasms and muscle tightness...this happens from tensing up on impact. I do hope everything calms down for you and that you feel better. Nanc ![]() |

TK, I'm so sorry this happened and hope you're starting to feel a bit better. The suggestions re muscle relaxers etc are good, maybe a warm bath with some nice oils, candles etc would help you release some of the tension as well. Anything that could calm you down and help your body relax a bit. Any kind of shock like that is nasty, but the pains and tightness must be worrying you. Hopefully your new symptoms are temporary and things will calm back down again for you.
There's nothing you could have done. Some people are stupid and you can't (sadly) protect yourself against them. I agree that you should see your doc as a precautionary measure - you need to get the accident on record just in case anything comes of it. Let's hope he can reassure you ![]() Take care, and have a quiet few days, and let us know how you get on. Bram ![]()

Like the others have said I am so sorry to hear you were in an accident and I hope you heal quickly and without other complications.
I would certainly contact your SCS implant surgeon to have xrays taken of where the leads are implanted to be sure they haven't shifted. The only other thing I can suggest is warm moist head pads or epsom salt soaks to ease any swelling. Be well, Tessa |

Yikes TK! I concur with the others. I hope you can get into see a doc right away, and yes maybe some heat would help, like a hot bath. Can you take ibuprofen to reduce any swelling, etc? Of course something far strong might be in order. I have thought to myself on many occasions that a car accident just might throw me over the edge. I'm so sorry that this happened to you and I truly hope that you are able to bounce back quickly with no lingering affects.

Get into your dr for a check up right away, you need this follow up appt on the record. especially if anything gets worse.
Often whiplash will take time before it really hits you. And with the complication of the cervical stimulator acting up that needs to be documented. Esp if it was working fine before the accident and not right afterward.. The person at fault (their ins company ) will most likely require proof (doctors reports/documentation) if it starts to get expensive..

Has anyone else used Arnica Gel? Bram I know it's a lot more popular in the UK. Have had a tendinitis since 9th grade, when a kid twisted my arm way farther than it was willing to go.I've had flare ups of that for forever. About 4 years before my RSD hit, I was at a renaissance fair in MI and a young woman was hocking it. I tried it and it gave me amazing relief from the tendinitis in my right wrist. So now when I get peripheral pain that develops from limping or reaching too far, general strains that the RSD turns up the volume on, I go to the Arnica Gel.
Depending on where you get it, it can be sort of pricy. I used a brand from the UK for over 10 years, it was the only brand I could find for years and very few places sold it, B&T. But if you live near a Whole Foods, Tkaye, they private label it from B&T. The tube is larger and only about $8, the last time I bought it. Whether its tendon pain or muscle ache I slather on Arnica about 2x a day for a day or two at the most and it makes a huge difference. I am sure you must be really stressed, so i hope you are able to relax and get some rest. Feel better soon. |

Hi Sylv, no I haven't tried arnica gel, butill have a look for some - I remember my grandma and mum always swore by arnica for bruises (and slathered it on us kids!), and I know it's a fairly gentle natural product. Thanks for the reminder!
Bram.
