Default Handicapped Placard

Hi everyone,
I was just thinking of the winter coming and wanted to tell you that my pm dr helped me get a handicapped placard, so that when I go for dr visits, I won't have far to walk to get to his office. That way, my chances of slipping on snow or ice are reduced. I don't want anymore broken bones, because that could possibly trigger a spread of my rsd. I don't really drive much anymore, but even when I'm a passenger I use the placard so that I reduce my chances of slipping and falling and breaking more bones. If you don't have one and want to reduce your chances off falling as well, you may want to ask you dr about getting a placard too. Just food for thought. Hope you all have a great day today.

Default I got one!

I totally agree with you Renee! My PCP filled out the paperwork to get me a permanent one. My husband has one too. I know some people have issues using them...the stigma that goes with it, I don't know. Sometimes I might feel fine when I get to the dr or store, but after walking around for a few minutes I am thankful the car is not too far away. It is a blessing and has helped me greatly! Especially now that I have to use a walker when I go out.

Thanks Nanc. It is also very helpful for me to to have my placard when I am in alot of pain and don't have alot of stamina to walk too far. I use a walker usually in the mornings when I first get up because my pain level is really high then, and my feet hurt alot from the rsd spread to them. It helps me to get to the bathroom and after about an hour of moving, I don't use it much again until the next morning. I then sometimes use a cane for the daytime and evening hours. (I'm looking into treating myself to a hurrycare! I like them.) Hope you have a good day today and take care.

They are definitely a smart tool to have in your arsenal! I'm glad you got one. That's what they're for. If it saves you a flare so that you can have a nicer time with your family in the evening, then it is WELL worth it to use. You are entitled to one, and you need to use it when it's necessary.

I got one this summer when going to the farmer's market became hard. Either walk blocks to get there or park in the garage that I had to climb three levels of stairs. But, there have been a few times I've really wanted to use it and all the other disabled spots are taken.

And you don't have to put coins in the meter.

I had one in AZ, it's about quality of life and that's awesome you have one. Anyone with RSD who lives in areas where there is snow and ice. Glad you have that Renee. Here in NM you pretty much have to be unable to walk without some sort of assistance to qualify for handicapped parking access. I get the feeling if they were loose with their regulations in this state, 1/2 the population would have handicapped parking.
