Default New drug for CRPS in 2014

If the FDA approves it, there could be a new medication coming to treat the symptoms of CRPS as early as 2014!

There is also NEW HOPE on the horizon for CRPS patients in 2014. There is a possibility of a medication being developed to help treat the symptoms of CRPS. We will share what we know and more as we learn more and as the studies progress. Some exciting news will be coming in January of 2014, be sure to watch American RSDHope's cover page, Awareness section, and these pages for more on this exciting news!

Here are the details so far...

Neridronate is a new bisphosphonate for the treatment of osteopenia, but an amazing thing happened when it was tested against CRPS (#6).

Every patient, all of whom had CRPS1, who was infused with the drug, was free of all CRPS symptoms one year later! The trial included the opportunity for placebo receivers to get a supply of the drug if it showed excellent activity, so every person enrolled in the study was cured! The company is filing with the FDA to have CRPS added as an approved indication.

This would be the first drug on the market specifically approved for CRPS!

The RSDSA and American RSDHope will be meeting with the people behind this exciting discovery in January, 2014.

Thanks Bram for linking that info. I was up way later than I should have been last night and was so excited with that new info that I forgot to attach the links. I just copied and pasted some of the info. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it is approved. Glad you are checking out other links also.

To all : Go to American RSDhope -treatments (at the top of page)-new medicine for CRPS- the links and more info on that page.

And this sounds wonderful! But is it going to help type 2 patients? I know why my RSD was caused, and am I always going to have to suffer because of a botched surgery.

Amidst the hope I just want to sound a small note of caution...

All the participants in the trial (all of whom were without CRPS symptoms since the treatment, with no relapse) had only had CRPS for less than 4 months. Anyone with previous neurological symptoms was excluded. All participants also had CRPS in either a hand or foot (ie extremities only).

Now, this might well mean that the treatment will be approved for new CRPS cases fairly quickly, as the results were so impressive. Whether it will be approved for patients who have had the disease long-term is unknown. As far as I can tell from researching on the web, no trial of it has been conducted on patients suffering from CRPS for a long time. I'm not sure how these things are decided, but I just wanted to throw this small hat into the proverbial ring.

I have only had this for 2 1/2 years (only. Lol), and I can only imagine how it feels to have had this monster for decades, as many here have. I hope there is a BIG PUSH to get this treatment tested on those with CRPS for years - surely the long term patients deserve to know quickly whether this might help us all....after all, those treated quickly have the best chance of recovery anyway. They had better not forget about us in the rush to get this approved.

Just some thoughts. Hope all here are having one of their better days...

Bram.

I am so glad they are trying to find new meds for us and maybe do a new trial for other types and lengths of having this disease. It may also help us. I would do the trial if offered. I think they offer this trials all over and not in just one location. My mother was in one for a new eye treatment and it cured her. I am so happy for this new possible option and know this means they are getting closer for help for all of us. I do have new hope and it has helped me mentally a lot.

This is great news!! If only to know that research IS being done &
HOPE IS OUT THERE!! So often we feel dismissed & ignored by the medical community!!
Like you Bram I'm hopeful but guarded. Like you said, there's probably more hope for newer diagnosed patients. Also I'm wondering about the age of the participants.
My P.M. Dr. has CRPS but went into remission with some very intense & controversial (Ketamine? she won't say) in patient treatment. But she was in her early teens & she's still young (maybe early 30's).
Things I've read is that youth makes remission far more likely, which really is as it should be.
Murgir thanks so much!!

Hi Murgir, Thanks for this info. And Bram, thanks for your info too about this new drug. I hope that the FDA approves it soon for rsd and that it does end up helping not only crps I patients but also crps II patients. I also hope it helps people who have had rsd for longer than four months too. Thanks again for showing a possible light at the end of the tunnel. Take care.
