Default Best Worst Day

Yesterday was the day from hell with some amazing bright spots.

I had to deal with a bunch of SSD crap. I'm on my first appeal and just ugh! I spent an hour in the social security office waiting to see someone, and tucked myself into a corner out of the way as much as possible since there is just no way I could sit in one of their plastic chairs without wanting to kill myself from the pain. Well apparently parenting isn't a thing around here. A preschool aged kid who was accompanied by both parents was left to run rampant and wild all around the place, never mind that it was full of old and disabled people. Eventually he ran up faster than I could do anything about it and stomped straight on my left foot and rammed his head into my thigh. I disentangled myself from the brat (I'd be sorry for my viewpoint, but at this point I have little tolerance for children who are so wildly out of control with inattentive parents who give zero craps, so I'm not) but it was too late. I was in tears from pain, it felt like my foot was broken although I obviously knew better and my leg was on fire worse than ever, toe to hip. I still had to wait another half hour to be helped, but after gasping and crying out in pain from their brat running into me they kept him away from me. (But made no effort to keep him away from old people with canes trying to walk.)

I finished up my errands with a run to the grocery store where I had to call customer service about an allergen in a product. I got someone super knowledgeable which was a rare thing and really just cheered me up. Then, as I was getting into my jammies and checking my email and such I noticed that there was going to be a lunar eclipse last night. I checked the weather report and it looked good. After my nap, the weather was awesome. And although it was 34 degrees at 1:00 when it peaked, the sky was perfect and I got my geek on watching the eclipse with my husband on our porch.

I seriously shorted myself on sleep. I knew that today was a rare day I would be working. (I'm a substitute teacher for a college class my best friend teaches.) But it was so worth it to stay up late. It's really amazing how a few good experiences can really make a crappy day (or week) better. Today is already rough, and will only get rougher, but I know I can at least go home and hit the sack. My husband got offered 2 days of overtime instead of 2 days off today and tomorrow so I can recover without worry about missing out on time with him and woohoo money!

So even on what was one of the roughest days I've ever had, I still had a silver lining. I try to stay positive, find my silver linings, and laugh when I can. Because the alternative is just too horrible and sad to think about. I hope you all find your silver lining today or something to make you smile.
