HI Sue,
my susan's birthday, the one having the twins, is september 6th and she will be 37. so your twins were born almost 10 years to the day after she was. my son was 35 june 1st. the boys are due on december 28th but we assume they wil be early. we're having her shower october 21st. so she is not allowed a single contraction before that date! now when is your birthday??? mine is may 30th. oh and i keep meaning to ask you if you were a breech baby. i was and the doctor said my hip problem was probably from that, so i was wondering if you were too or if you had birth complications that you know of. so i got a lot of quilting done today and i so am getting to the end of quilt two! then i will start the snow suits that are peas in a pod! ha! oh they are cute. i have the pattern cut out so i just need to get to putting it on the material and then sew. i keep thinking of things i want to make before the babies arrive ... i will never get done. but i like to keep my hands busy. well, hope your weekend is nice and quiet for ya. love, your hip sister, joan

Hi Joan,
My bithday is January 15th. I will be 49. Yes I was a breech baby. Boy are we alike. I wish I knew how to quilt. They have a class at my church. I think Iam going to join it. I love to sew and do crafts. my favorite thing to make are christmas ornaments. Right now Iam cutting out gingerbread men for the church fair. I had a really good night . I sent my husband to our old street to hang out with his friends. He misses them so much. I think that is part of his problem. He still isn't home yet, which is good. I sound awfull don't I? My daughter is picking him up on her way to work. I have to babysit today. I better get my rest now.Shes getting so big. 15 lbs and its hard roe me to hold her. Have a good day. i knew you would say you were breech ... do you know all babies are checked for hip problems at birth now? and especially breech ones. could have saved us! i was happy when i learned that in nursing school.
i do not think it is bad you are sending your husband out! i think it is perfect for both of you!! my husband golfs, thank God! i know the babysitting is hard, but enjoy what you can and then send the little one home. we can only do waht we can. it is exhausting. and i love my crafts. my girlfriend started me quilting, and i have sewn in years past, so it was easy to pick it back up, and i love it but it is a bit tough on the arms and hands and back. i do the hand quilting part in short periods or i suffer for it. but the machine stuff i can do pretty quickly. i have done and/or do it all, crochet a lot, knit a little, do floral arranging when needed, and i have done some ornaments. i like variety. you should try the quilting. start small. you could quilt ornaments or a nice table runner for your new apartment. they have some nice patterns. wel, i'm off to bed ... love, you hip sister, joan

Hi Joan,
I made sure my girls were all checked as soon as they were born. Even my grandkids. My mom said that this is something that runs in familys. I don't know if that is true or not. I had my girls checked out when they were born. I wouldn't let them leave the delivery room until their hips were checked. I even made sure my grandkids were checked even the boys. My cousins daughter on my fathers side of the family had the same thing. She was lucky, they caught it right away. It always made me wonder why they didn't take me to Shriners Hospital. My father was a Shriner. I worked there for 5 years before the hip replacement. I am going to join the quilting class at church. I love the quilts look. your "hip sister" Sue |

HI Sue,
i had my kids x-rayed to make sure! ha! i was so afraid they would have it. i had heard it does run in families too, but also is common with breech babies. you and i took no chances and that is a good mother for sure. we did not want our children to go through anything like we did. it was so hard, wasn't it? i always watch my grandsons run and play at the age i was so confined and i am so greatful that they are able and that they do not know the feelings of those bosy casts. i always think ... yes, that is how it should be, to run and be free and not have a care in the world. we did not get that. it was a loss of our youth. i always wondered why my family did not take me to boston?? i would have been so much better off. but actually they would not have taken me anywhere except that my grandfather insisted. oh well water under the bridge ... now we get rsd ... so much better, eh? NOT! let me know how the quilting goes. i hope you love it. love, your hip sister, joan

Hi Joan,
In some ways I think we are better off that we have been in pain all of our lives. I think that we can handle (kind of) the pain a litle bit better. I watch my husband when his back and neck are acting up and he can do nothing but lay down. I always try to move around and get something done. If I didn't, I would be in bed all the time. Yes it hurts like crazy but Iam not going to give in to this. You and I are so much stronger for what we have had to deal with. In some ways Iam thankful for that. I can't belive that we have one more thing in common. My grandfather was the one who was watching the home movies and noticed the way I was walking. He told my parents to get me to the doctors right away. He was the best. I miss him so much. When he died, I was a week away from having my youngest, Danielle. She was due on my birthday the 15th. Well when my husband told me that he had died, I went into labor. She was born on Jan. 9th at 1:08am and he died on Jan. 8th at 1:08am. Sorry for going on so long but my grandparents were the most important people in my life. Love "your hip sister" Sue |

hi sue,
sometimes i get the shivers when i read your postings. my grandparents were the most important people in my life also. they were the ones i wanted to be like and the ones i wanted to be with. my papa died when i was 14 and it was a trauma to me, but my nana lived into her 80s and was my best friend. i try my hardest to be that kind of gramma to my grandsons. they are hard shoes to fit into, but i do my darndest. i know what you mean about our having a high pain tolerance because we have had pain all our lives. my doctor once told me it is a curse too though because i will go and go despite the pain, and pain is a sign to stop and take notice of what is going on. but i kind of like that i can fight it. it makes me feel in control. i can feel pain and separate it from the rest of my body, and i know it is there, but i can just live in the 'no pain' zone ... for a while at least. when it catches up with me i suffer but by then i usually have done what needs doing! ha! lovingly, your hip sister, joan
