You know some doctors think they know it all, and some could give a rats *** unless you have body parts falling off.
I will tell you though that having this crazy RSD for the last 7 years has been a whirlwind of pain and suffering that most doctors dont even understand. Most would rather label us as certifiable whacko, or just plain be uncaring. It took me a while to find a good doctor, but the staff sucked lol. This doctor told me there was really nothing that could be done for me. All he could do was cry with me and give me something to make me more comfortable. Just doing that was a great relief even though the something to help me be comfortable really didnt work lol. I hope you can find a doc that cares. I know it is hard, but keep lookin cause they are out there. ![]()

Hi Jen
I am so sory your doc was such a jerk to you.. it sounded to me like he may have been flustered or perhaps intimidated by the spread ect.. his "ohh my gosh" at the coldness etc.. My concern is for you finding another doctor who is on board with the scope of the involvement of your RSD, so many doctors do not believe that spread happens, expecialy if you are (I presume) early into RSD (sory my memorys shot). Please don't get me wrong he was very impatient with you and rude (understatement) to snap at a patient in pain AND I hope he can't sleep with feeling so bad for what he did, but most likely he is one of those docs with nasty bedside manners and he was having a realy bad day and he was frustrated at having no answers for you and delt with it very badly. Either way I would write a note to him explaining how it went how you felt, why it was wrong and asking him to reply back on this issue. this will I think at the least make you feel better, but it may make him sit up and think of it from the patients view, and mabie the next RSD patient he see's will not have to go through the same crap. Asking him to reply is crutial to his treatment for his ailment (nastyness), and a part of his recovery process should he see fit to join the HUMAN race, some doctors are just too full of themselves to apologise but if they can find it in their big ego's it will make them a better doctor for it. Or just go on as you are I am sure you have considered all this and perhaps he wasn't your regular doc just a specialist or you have more docs on board with your progress, I just wanted to help you think of the obstacles in the doctor hunting world, here where I am I have to first prove/show docs that RSD can spread it's like they are in the dark ages and never read their books (lol but realy not funny) My docs are getting there and I just about quit each of my docs at least once, and we all get along better for me telling them how I feel about the care I get, I do it so'as to not upset the delicate ego but to make therm think of it from my side. One doc I left for much the same reason but I regret it some days now, he too was a pompus fool but a thourough one unlike some other's. Nice to see your significant other is protective and suportive too. Good luck and Hugs, Sandra |

Desi,
I am truly sorry that you had to go through what you did with that doctor and congrats to your husband for telling him where to go. It is great when you can have someone to stand up to idiots such as the doctor when you can't even move from sheer agony. NO ONE knows what RSD is like until they go through it. People can sympathize but to stand there and say he knows your pain is insane. Unfortunately, I had two doctors do something like that to me...one was when I went to the ER for extreme pain in Aug 2005 and lie in the ER room and no one would touch me because the doctor thought I was a drug addict trying to get pain medicine from him but I fixed him good the next day when I told the Physician of the three ERs in my area exactly just what he did and how he did it. Then, the other time was in Oct 2006 when I went to Workers Comps "neurologist and pain management doctor that they have researched so well." He yanked on my arms, legs, feet, head so badly that I cried out in agony for him to stop it and told him he was not touching me again. I then was in severe agony for 9 days straight and thought I was going to die from all the pain. I couldn't even get out of bed. My poor son had to take care of me. It was horrible and all the WC nurse could say was "Oh, he did a thorough exam" and "She didn't see anything he did wrong." I about lost it on her and told her I would not take my cat to see him. I also did some research and found out [via the Internet] that he was NOT a neurologist and only subspecialized in pain mgmt. She lied to me then when I questioned her she said it was a miscommunication and later said she never said that. Her problem is that she said it to another of my doctors and she was busted!!! I have never spoken to her since 12/06 and refuse to speak to anyone except when they email me or send me letter via the post office. It is amazing what insurance cos/doctors will do and say when you are in the worst pain of your life. I will keep you and all the people that have RSD in my prayers each night. You need to seek a kind compassionate doctor that will take the time with you and treat you like a human being in pain. He is an idiot. I don't know how these doctors stay in business. Best of luck to you and hang in there. Tell your husband I said he is the best!!! Kathy d. |
