Can you have a movement disorder that only affects you when you try to use your muscles (like walking)?
Can you have one that affects you though your reflexes are fine? Doctors have yet to dx me with a movement disorder, because of my reflexes appearing fine. But yet, when I try to relax my muscles (like in bed) my legs/ arms/ body thrusts itself a bit... lil' confused on all of this because though I have researched lots on RSD I haven't read up on too much about movement disorders. P.S. Sites/ articles/ studies would be appreciated Last edited by InHisHands; 06-08-2007 at 10:39 AM. |

I have not had a movement disorder Dx either but I dont' want anymore labels. The 3 I do have are quite enuf thank you very much. *LOL*
But I do the twitch thingy off & on. And I have totally perfect reflexes when any doc does that test on me too. So the answer to your question is absolutely YES> Mostly first thing in the morning. And it is worse when I am physically exhausted. Which believe it or not does happen to me now & then. We went camping last weekend & just trying to come back from that has been hard, cause on top of just getting back late afternoon on Monday, I had an LSB procedure done on Wed. And those drugs do a job on me anymore. Today I had to clean up my house I felt like I was wading thru ick on my floors. It rained Tuesday & we have this bush that blooms little pink flowers then seeds & it tracks into the house really really badly. So I had to clean it up. I have RSD in both feet & it tries to take hold in my hands too but SGB's have been keeping it at bay from taking full hold. This is my 2nd round of LSB's altho the firwst round was back in 04. Due to back & major back surgery I haven't been able to do LSB's. Then the damn doc hit the bone & I about died (not really but wanted too) during the procedure from that pain. It was bad. But I do have to say that my foot didn't hurt for 2.5 days. They NEVER worked that long when I had them done back in 04. Sorry to dump on ya & hijack your post like that. But yes I twitch & jerk bad enuf sometimes in my hands to spill drinks even. And sometimes my leg kicks out from a jerk or twitch. My Doc calls my movements Dystonia. It just happens so I don't worry about it. What bothers me MORE is when my body goes into the "Fight or Flight" mode & won't come out of for hours at a time. Now that wears me into a frazzled state of exhaustion quicker than anything else can & then I really do the the twitch/jerk problems. Hope this helps to know you not alone................I am sort wondering why you would want another DX of Movement Disorder???? It is just one of the myriad symptoms of having RSD as far as I am concerned. TTFN (Ta Ta For Now) DebbyV Last edited by Debby; 06-08-2007 at 06:21 PM. How lovely to hear from you! I don't think it's a question of "wanting" (of course not, who wants these thing, lol) - but Vanessa's still in the diagnostic stage and they are - sensibly, I think, she's only 16/17 - taking a wider view of her condition as a whole, to start with. Don't you think that's the best way to deal with things in the beginning? And hey - if it were me I'd get rid of the pink bush ![]() Vanessa, step in if I'm out of line here... ![]() all the best! |

Hey Vanessa,
I don't think reflexes matter in terms of diagnosing a movement disorder. I could be wrong though! Movement disorders in RSD are commonly things like difficulty initiating movement, shaking and dystonia. I've experienced all three to varying degrees. I've had lots of problems with dystonia in my leg especially. I've also had the muscles "jumping" thing that you described. For me, though, the movement disorder part of this stupid disease manifests itself as really tight muscles, which I just can't relax no matter how hard I try. And I also have the difficulty initiating movement thing. It kind of feels like my joints are sticky or something, and it takes a minute to be able to move. "Back in the day," meaning when I was in high school and my RSD was way worse than it is now, I really couldn't move my leg below the knee---ankle and toes were all pulled in funny positions from the dystonia. Right now, I don't have much ability to move my toes (I can wiggle them a little bit) and my ankle is kind of tight. That's my movement disorders experience. Hope it helped a bit! Love, Bets |

hey vanessa! it's funny that you should mention this. i've also been experiencing this when i am trying to relax. my muscles don't want to chill out. especially my legs and it's so strange because it's almost like i'm being hit with the little reflex hammer. sometimes my legs just jerk like mad! i'm wondering if it's a side effect of the meds.
i'm praying for you girl! ![]() ang

Hi everyone inhishands I have what you have going on with my upper body my arm and shoulder I have weakness in my arm and cannot move my arm up above my shoulder. Sorry I have RSD/and TOS my doctors are confused since my RSD and TOS are in the same general area, the overlape each other.
I have muscle twitches, jerking and lose of strength in my arm hand and shoulder. My muscles jerking more of late is because my PT was wanting to work to hard on my strength, so I stopped her and the twiches are not as bad but I fear they will not leave me now.Inhishands I also have what they say is muscle gaurding and my muscles tight 24-7 and when they flare it is even worse ![]() |
