I had a wonderful cat names Sam for 18 yrs. I found her in a box outside a store I worked at. I had to put her to sleep. We now have a bird but its not the same. Mabey someday I'll get another cat. They give so much love.

[COLOR="Blue"] Hi Sue! sorry to hear about Sam! I do, indeed know what you are going through! I had a cat for 5 yrs. dog got him. Please get another now. I didn't want to for 2 months or forever!! Then, one day my husband (Bill) says to me, honey, lets go for a ride.. I'm like where.. he said, "oh just a nice quiet ride" I said ok.. here he stops at a homeless shelter for cats. I fell in love with one, didn't even resemble Frisky, but this kitty would NOT leave me alone(AT first, I didn't want to be licked, feel warmth, nothing!) then the little fur ball(he is now a short hair striped, golden sort of cat, with a racoon tail) curled around my neck& purred his little butt off.. LOL! I started crying, Bill said I'll take this one for my wife to make her happy" what a guy, hu? Love, Desi and Frisky Oh, and Mr. Bill!! ]

Pets, ok..I have 3 horses, a warmblood from Germany (my soulmate), a throughbred off the track, and a retire police horse from washington dc. I have 3 black cats, female, (fixed everything I have has been), fuzzy, smooth and middle..lol 3 dachshunds Female one 15,13,and 9. One also on my shelf in the living room. I always keep 3 of each. All but my warmblood (which was a birthday present from my german friends), and 13 year old dog were rescues. Ones nobody would take because they have issues. I always tell everyone that I never killed my kids for having accidents or doing things they shouldn't, why would I do it to an animal? they are my reason for getting out of bed in the morning.

Hey

I have a white alsation (Judy - otherwise known as Booboo) who we got with her brother (Lewis - Fat Pig), from a shelter. They had been really badly abused and needed a home which would ignore their weirdness and so fitted right in. At first they were so scared that even raising a hand would have them on the floor quivering and you could feel all their bones. But now they are so much better. Fatz died last year of throat cancer but Booboo is such a joy to have.

I also have a Bijon Frise called Alphred (Smallie). He is inherited and is abit annoying - Bijons take about 6 years to house train and then after the age of about 7 or 8 become incontinent again.

I also collect cats. We only have 4 at the moment but we had about 7 last year - any strays end up moving in with us or we get them from people that know we take in any animal really. At the moment we have Tom - (a big fat ginger tom who is gorgeous! he is so placid, he grew up with us and so grew up being dressed in dolls clothes and being put in a pram and pushed around. He also thought he was Jesus for about a year because he firmly believed he could walk on water. Mum was so glad when he got over that stage because at one point she had to be there to rescue either my sister and I or Tom from the pond. Fred is my cat and is black, white and deaf and an idiot. He was found as a kitten walking down the middle of a main road on Boxing day where he had been abandoned. He was given to a wild life sancturary and then we got him. He had orignially chosen a sheep as his mum and when he came to us he decided that Woof (my old springer spaniel) was mum. He is a sweetie and loves sharing the bed and sleeping in your armpits or perching on your shoulder. Gareth is a stray that moved in. He is beautiful, a HUGE black cat. Shame he has almost no personality though. He loves sleeping between peoples knees and eats anything. Willum was also inherited and he is a Burman. He is gorgeous but alittie difficult. He is just not a people cat and more of a lots of presents of rats mice and rabbits.

Well, that's my current lot!

We don't have any pets, but right now my wife is dog-sitting our son's little dog; the experience hasn't been a lot of fun for me: the damn dog sneaks into my room to look for spilled food, and twice he brushed against a potato chip bag in the early morning hours.

Imagine being drowsy or sleeping lightly and hearing what sounds like a 30 pound rat rummaging around....I almost had to take Xanax to calm back down.

I have been thinking of buying a couple of 10 gallon aquariums to brighten my room, but haven't been all that successful with fish in the past, so this thread came at a perfect time for me.

I need suggestions about what kinds of fish to buy: they must be cheap and able to withstand some brief periods of famine as my short-term memory deficits don't bode well for hopes of rigorously timed feedings. Any ideas? ...Vic

Oh, I forgot to mention I have 8 gerbils (soon to be 2) named Squiggie, Eggo, Cow, Chicken, Reese, Q-Tip, and Rat.

And I would recommend getting goldfish and snail things that clean the sides of the tank.

Hey Desi,

It is so hard to replace animals - they never really can replace one as most of them have such large personalities!!! So did you get a Frisky 2?

I can't bear the thought of any animal being abandoned or not cared for properly and I suppose I love a challenge of seeing whether love will make a difference to their behaviour, and it normally does!

Love ya hun

I've got Cinnamon Gold, called by many stupid nicknames. My favorite thing is to call her "Minnie" because it's very ironic. She's a 100-pound yellow labrador retriever, who will turn six years old next month. She's not the brightest, but we love her anyway! And yes, she is the dog in my avatar, asleep with one paw on the remote control (as a puppy, she thought it was her chew toy, and now she sometimes cuddles it while she sleeps).
