Hey there,

So for my treatment so far, I have been on medicaid. I am starting a new job soon and will no longer qualify for medicaid though. I am trying to figure out what kind of insurance I need to get to make sure treatment for my CRPS is covered and preferably not pay a bazillion dollars.

Does anyone have advice on getting coverage for CRPS or other tips related to this topic?

Hi there,

Although Obamacare "officially" ended discrimination against sick patients by eliminating pre-existing coverage denial, there is an issue of medication coverage. Many are finding deductibles and out of pocket expenses skyrocketing and unless a medication is generic it can be placed on the most expensive Tier. With many needing multiple meds this can quickly create crippling expenses.

This means a lot more homework for the consumer to dig into what percentage procedures are covered at and what tier meds they need or MAY need in the future are placed on. I would look carefully at meds and things like nerve blocks, infusions and physical therapy.

Hi! Good luck with your new job! Your question about healthcare coverage is a good one. Littlepaw's advice about researching the cost of your meds is on the mark. If you can choose a healthcare provider with your new employer (small business dont usually offer a selection of companies, but larger corporations do) then you can go to each carrier's website with a list of your meds and look up the cost. I found costs varied between insurance companies and even which pharmacy i went to. You also want to make the doctors you see accept the insurance plan you choose. I havent figured out though how to compare costs for procedures like nerve blocks, xrays, bloodwork. Never mind understanding deductibles and co-insurance etc. The insurance companies can explain that stuff if you call them. Best of luck to you!

A lot of insurance company website have cost estimate for facilities and procedures where you might be able to get info on nerve block costs etc.. good luck
