Default My 11 yr old just had Nerve Block

Morning,

On Monday my 11 yr old, just had his first nerve block, he has CRPS on both feet. My little man is bed ridden, and has not been to school for 3 months.

So I was FINALLY able to find a Dr, here in South Florida that would treat him. It is very difficult to be seen by a Pain Dr. when your son is 11. I called every Hospital based Pain Mgt Program form the keys to West Palm Beach, even the University of Miami Pain fellowship program to get him seen, none of them would see him. Finally, I started calling all the private practice Pain Dr's. After calling 75 One of them, I was able to find an amazing Dr. who would see him. We were seeing a Peds. Pain Dr, but she does not do any invasive procedures, only lots of meds and Physical therapy, problem is, its both feet and he cant tolerate the car rides there or back to the house, he is in major pain for several hours after car rides.

On Monday he had his first Never Block, I believe it was both sides on L2 and L4. Its been great for him so far, My wife has been able to put the ketamine lotion on his feet, the only time she had been able to do it when he was asleep. On Tuesday, he was able to use a walker and walk 20 feet, first time in 3 months. and yesterday, he and I swam in the pool for 30 minutes.

Its been amazing so far, and the plan of attack is for him to have 3 Nerve blocks, every 2 weeks.

Hopefully these nerve blocks will reduce the pain enough, that he can start physical therapy again.

Sully,

My pm doctor told me that the reason children recover from CRPS is due to intense PT. I regained significant mobility once I exercised in a warm pool, after taking low dose naltrexone for a few weeks. Hopefully, the combination of the nerve blocks and exercising in a pool will turn the tides for your son.

In regard to the car rides I have the same issue, I cannot tolerate a ride long than 20 minutes. I hope someone here suggests a way to make a long car trip bearable.

Yesterday was another great day, he is almost his normal self, because of the pain he has been a really pain in the butt. He mostly takes it out on my wife.

He was happy, and we spent 45 minutes in the pool. He walked a lot on the bottom of the pool, swam, pushed off from the side of the pool, and pushed off of me too. I had hoped we could get him to try and walk, with the aid of the walker, but he did not want to try yesterday.

With this nerve block and the ketamine lotion, it has changed him so much, for the good. I hope he can stay at this level till his next nerve block in 10 days.

That's great news and I am really happy to hear he is having such a positive response. It's good to keep him as active as possible while he can do it and hopefully things will just keep getting better and better. SO happy for you guys!

We love hearing good news and this is great news! It is wonderful that he is on track to being a kid again.

Pool therapy can be so beneficial and any time in there is a step in the right direction!

I wish him the best of luck and keep those updates coming!
