My nails are brittle too... slices or layers come off from the nail in places I was cutting the edge off. But what's weird is that they are so thick that they don't break under normal circumstances. I can tighten screws with my thumb nails, it's so strange. Yeah, it messes up the edges, but the nails don't break.

Does anyone besides me have extra long nails? I can't stand to clip mine, cuz then comes filing the edges.... and the vibrations of filing hurt like crazy.

Go figure... now that I am sitting at home in pain going nowhere, I have the nails of my dreams (on my hands, anyway).
