Default Snail Venom for pain relief

http://www.ivanhoe.com/channels/p_ch...?storyid=16744

A snail found in the sea could be all it takes for millions of people to live pain-free. Small but deadly, the Conus Magnus sea snail strikes its prey with venom a thousand times more potent than morphine, and it’s a synthetic form of this toxin that gives people relief from chronic pain.

Hi,

This is a fascinating possiblity for us all. There has already been a man made version of the Conus Magus sea snail toxin developed in Japan and available as PRIALT. This is being used In Britain and here in Australia, I am not sure about the USA. It is of course very expensive making it an less viable option of pain relief for most people.
Our University of Queensland ( the Conus Magus is found off our Great Barrier Reef) has the toxin developed to animal testing stage, hoping that human testing is not too far away.
Imagine a pain relieving drug that works by blocking calcium channels that transmit pain stimuli that is up to 1000 times more effective than Morphine, but without many of the Morphine side effects. Something for many us to look forward to.
Regards
Tayla

Hi Jacquelina,
it was not me, but 'junkformyemail' that gave us the 'snail tale'! so i will pass the thanks over to her.
but it is quite fascinating, isn't it? and i love, love, love, 'nature' and natural cures. as an RN in an icu, pushing the most toxic of drugs, i was always reading such stuff, and i always thought, and still think, there are alot more of such cures out there the the pharmeceutical companies do not ever want us to know about. they are big business, and i saw how they are 'in' with doctors and hospitals and it is not to our benefit.

There are some posts/threads about Prialt on the medications forum and a few here {on RSD forum} from last winter if I recall correctly.

I'd do the search for you but last time I tried to do that the link wouldn't work for anyone and I tried to repost it 3x .
