i have had lots of ivs, lots of procedures, and i have never had a problem with an iv. well let me rephrase that i am a horrible stick because i have had so many ivs. however a few weeks ago i had a an iv the nurse stuck me in my wrist and basically went digging for a vein she never managed to find. problem is she hit my nerve and of course caused a flare but more important than the pain that thanks to meds i can deal with, my hand now feels like it is continuously in that random uncomfortable sleepy tingling thing. i now have to have sgb blocks once a week (now an anesthesioligist has to stick me). i was just wondering if anyone has ever had an iv mess up a nerve and have the numbness tingling thing and if so did it resolve? just curious because tomorrow i have another one and havent seen much improvement

I've never had an IV messed up like that but when I had my one and ONLY sgb done the doc didn't use fluoroscopy and was digging around in my neck and hit the nerve to my hand twice!!! Yes, major flare as a result but yes it did finally subside.....shouldn't have happened in the first place though I hope your symptoms settle down very soon, jen

I had an IV that felt like the needle was right up against a nerve. It didn't hurt but was exceedinly uncomfortable. It happened before I had RSD and felt a little similar to the pain from RSD. It went away slowly but took a few days.

the only time a needle should go into the wrist is for a test called 'arterial blood gases' or ABGs that are done for breathing problems. no iv should ever go there. ever.
sorry for your pain ... Joan
