Unhappy Hey evereone I am back!

Sorry it took me so long to get back with everyone. I have been in and out of the attorneys office as well as the doctors office. My foot is still trying to heal and it has already been at least a month. It is still swollen and still very sensitive to the touch and with certain amount of pressure. The ct scan showed nothing so the doc just said it was a severe sprain. My foot turned all purple. The bruising has gone away on the outside, but on the inside it is still very sore. I just hope that it is still trying to heal from the sprain and not getting rsd in it. My family physician told me that if it didn't seem like it was healed up in a few weeks that I was to get in to see him right away. I am scared. If the rsd does spread in my foot what am I going to do? With me walking with a gait to my walk it is throwing my bad hip out.Wouldn't you know that my injured foot is my left foot and my bad hip is my right hip? Is there any suggestions for me for what I can do to even things out in the way I walk,so I don't continue to throw my hip out? Like I said I don't know if it is just the sprain trying to heal yet or if rsd is starting to spread in my foot. I also started seeing my psychiatrist yesterday. He feels that I am on the right meds but he doesn't think they are doing what they are suppose to do. He feels that I am still having a lot of anxiety attacks and he wants to get them under control. He says that I can't do this alone, but he thinks I need to be on some meds to help with that. He was going to talk to my pain doc and they are suppose to get back with me on Monday. Is this normal for people who have rsd? I feel that since I have had it for 5 years I should be able to accept it a lot better than I am. Does anyone else have anxeity attacks that are out of control? If so please share with me what can be done, what kinds of meds there are or anything else that may be helpful. Again I am so sorry for not being here sooner.

Thanks lots!
Tracy

Default Hi Tracy,

My anxiety attacks got worse after I got RSD. Same with panic attacks and the depression. I am on no meds for either. Spent 2 years on zoloft which made my depression worse and one on prozac which made my suicidal thoughts worse. I think councelling is the greatest thing a person can do to help through what we go through. It's not an overnight thing either. It takes time to get better from the anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. There are meds out there that help people but as I said I couldn't take any of them. That's why I knew I had to go into councelling. My family Dr. always laughs at me when I ask for meds of any kind because I think we tried them all. Bill was on Celexa for depression and it did wonders for him. It also calmed him down to where he wasn't anxious all of the time.

As far as your foot. Last Sat. I stepped in a pothole and I didn't think I hurt myself but by the end of the day I was limping so bad that I couldn't walk. I came home and used biofreeze on it and wrapped it in a heating pad and it helped a lot. Like you the first thing I worry about is the spread of the RSD. It takes time to know whether it is going to heal and not have RSD set in. I hope it doesn't for you. I do suggest maybe staying off of it as much as you can and give it some time to heal. I know they tell you to keep active but with the injury you may just need to stay off of it to see if that does help it.

Ada

Welcome back Tracy

I wanted to suggest you talk to your dr. about your gait issues... maybe he can prescribe a pair of orthotic shoes for you. They make the soles of different heights so that you walk normally... my next-door neighbor needed them because she had polio when she was a child. They worked wonders for her, maybe they could do the same for you.

I have a problem with depression, and a few mild panic attacks here and there. Like Dream, I do not (cannot) take the anti-depressants most often prescribed. Prozac makes me insane, literally. My behavior while on it (for 2 whole days, I wouldn't take another pill) was totally out of character for me. Elavil (amitryptaline) doesn't work for me either... the dosage has to be so high that the side effects aren't worth it in my case. The only one that does me any good at all is Paxil. There are many reports out there about the dangers of Paxil, but I have never had any issues with it. I regularly went on and off my meds, and never had any sort of reaction.

I haven't taken an anti-depressant for many years now, but I am considering it again.
