Hi there,
Many of you have asked me to post a thread on how I went on at school - so here it is. I started school at 1pm, met all of my friends, Bethany, Gemma, Kayleigh, Abbie, and Andrea in my schools conferance room, we had a really good chat and all of my friends were pleased to see me. A few people looked at me in the playground/classrooms etc. I started my first lesson at 1.20pm. My friend, Andrea went and collected our work and then joined me in our schools library. We didn't get much work done because we were too busy chatting - lol ! My leg hurt a lot, I think it was the heat that was causing it At 2.10pm it was change of lessons, I had French next. My other friend, Abbie, went to our classroom to collect our work. My French teacher didn't set us any work because she was too busy giving the rest of the children their results from their French test, so me and Abbie had to sit there chatting. My leg hurt a lot and I got really tired. One of my teachers even had the cheek to ask if I could do PE. I said no because my foot is really painful and sensitive and I'm in a wheelchair and he said that I could play basketball in my wheelchair. I don't know whether he said it as a joke - but he is really dumb lol! I really hope that my leg is going to get better, I am glad to see all of my friends and they were really helpful. I was sick of all the boys dishing dirty looks out though! Its as though they've never seen anyone in a wheelchair before !!! The teachers had to keep changing my timetable around because some of my friends couldn't go out certain lessons so that was really annoying, plus one of my best friends that was supposed to be coming in the library with me could not because shes on crutches. Starting school again was not as bad as I thought - the pain was really really bad though. Pain free hugs Alison

[COLOR="Blue"]Hi Ali!
I have been thinking about you all day! I said some prayers for ya too! So all in all, you had a pretty good day, huh? Maybe the PE Teacher asked you if you wanted to play basketball, so as not to leave you out. Some people play baskeball in wheelchair's. Anyway, sorry you had bad pain. Thank you so much for writing and telling us about your day. Does the UK always have school at 1P.M.? when is school over? Here in The States, school usually starts at 8:00AM. and let's out at 2:30-3:00.P.M. Take care Ali, and I hope you have pain free days ahead ~Love, DesiCOLOR]

Hi Ali,
I know it was great to get back to school. I'm sorry you were hurting so much tho. You are very brave to put up with it so you could go to school. I know you and your friends had so much to talk about. Don't worry about the looks from the boys. At that age, they can act as if they are from another planet. ![]() Gently hugs Mary

If it gets to be too much to actually go to a school - there are online schools too
here's a site with UK listings- http://www.schoolswebdirectory.co.uk/ My daughter is doing online classes this year and she likes it much better than going to classes. She can split her time up any way that she wants as long as she gets the required hours.

As Desi said, there are a lot of people that do play basketball in a wheelchair. I would be afraid I'd run over some feet and give other people RSD. LOL
I'm glad things went good for you and yes the heat does seem to make us hurt worse at times. I was thinking what you might want to do is to find the shortest, best article on the description of RSD and run off some copies to give to your teachers and friends that ask about it. A lot of times people will ask what RSD is and boy, I have a time describing it. The reason I say the shortest is because a lot of people just don't have the time to read 2 or 3 or 4 pages about RSD. I would say a good one page description would do, of symptoms, the pain levels, and what it can limit a person to do mentally and physically. It sounds like you had a lot of fun today, that's great. Hi All,
Many thanks for your kind words, you have being great through all of this. School in the UK starts at 8.30am and finishes at 3pm. Because I am only going back part time I go at 1pm. It was really nice to see all of my friends, they were really nice and helpful, I stay in the schools library because of me being in a wheelchair and my friends take it in turns to sit with me. Many thanks for the website, Jo, it looks really interesting. Me and my mom made a brochure all about how RSD affects me and my life and we handed one out to each of my friends and teachers, there are many articles on the internet about RSD but I wanted it all about me and I also wanted it so that my friends could understand it Yes I do go back to school today, I start at 1pm and finish at 3pm again. I have got permission to go home though if my leg starts hurting or I get it knocked. Pain free hugs Alison -x-

Hi Alison,
Thank you so much for letting us know. I'm so glad you caught up with your friends. Boys just can't help themselves - surprisingly, they were probably jealous of your wheelchair.....boys seem to have a thing about anything with wheels. ![]() PE ? - only when you are ready. I'm also glad it wasn't as bad as you expected. Rest well & take good care. I hope the next days go even better. Auberon |

Many thanks for your kind words, I can't do PE because of my balance issues, hypersenstivity, etc etc. I don't know whether my teacher was joking or not, but he is really thick lol.
