Default THE PAIN (Ketamine)

Hi Folks,

I know are biggest SX is pain, BUT WHY?

Ketamine their are some it's helped, at least for a while but WHY, only a while?

I also what to add why haven't some been helped at all, with Ketamine?

The field of Neurology is not a Pain Mgt. field.

I have been oftered Ketamine, coma, low dose IV etc..

But seriously anytime someone has a form of Anesthesia, it destroy's brain cells, it really does.

On a real serious note, their are other ANESTHESIS'S ( just more brain damage) that would help as well, at least that is what I have been told by some of my MD's.

The top pain MD's are in OR, they really are. That's where the MONEY IS.

What any MD has to pay for the costs of the STATES Medical School's is just Outrageous. Please respond no matter what your views are. Much love, Roz

What does OR mean Oregon? or Operating Room? or something else?

[But seriously anytime someone has a form of Anesthesia, it destroy's brain cells, it really does.]
I've heard that said about Anesthesia also - I never researched on it though.

Hi Jo,

Yes, OR stands for operating room. In the field of medicine, Anesthesiologists in the OR are paid big huge bucks, they are the MD's that really make the money. Much Love, Roz

Hi Roz,

Thanks for those links
Isoflurane is being fazed out in most OR as an anaesthetic drug. There are many more better drugs used now but having said that the chance of having some cognitive deficit caused by it's use is fortunately slim.
I guess the question to be asked here is whether we are willing to take the risk of a drug (as almost any drug has possible side effects) in the search for something that will make our lives just a little more pleasant.
There would be far more risk of anaesthetic drugs causing problems in someone who has had to have repeated and long anaesthetics for whatever reasons, I am quite relaxed that any anaesthetic I have will probably not make my situation worse but it might just make it better.
I smiled when you wrote about Anaesthetists making moneyThey sure are the ones with the biggest bill but to be fair to them they do have enormous liabilty insurance costs and they are almost the most important person at any operation----they literally are the ones who breath for you and otherwise keep you alive.

As for the Ketamine link you will notice there was no damage in the shorter duration anaesthetics. Perhaps that maybe one reason the FDA will not approve the coma treatmant.
We have used Ketamine in anaesthetics for as many years as I can remember and I have had it for a decade and will confidantly say it has only ever made me feel better and there has been no negative sequalae.

I maybe more relaxed than many as I have seen first hand how well we are looked after whilst anaesthetised and how few problems there really are but I certainly respect that others may have a totally different opinions.
Hoping you are well
Cheers Tayla

Question Brain damage vs pain

Hmmmm I think maybe a little brain damage might not hurt lol. Or maybe it might help the hurt

My doc once told me to look at the options and then weigh which would be worse. Well according to him a life of pain is far worse than having to take pain meds, as pain is proven to also kill the brain, or at least cause atrophy.

I decided a long time ago that I wasnt going to put my hopes up for expensive, invasive, or otherwise hope dashing treatments. I do think as you do, that to each their own, and wont be the stumbling block to our fellow RSD'ers

At least right at this moment I know what im dealing with.....Pain. Why go through some procedure that isnt 100% going to cure me, and has the likelyhood of maybe making me worse? I opt for what I know.

Dont be afraid to express your opinion, some of us like to hear what you and others have to say. I do hope you are doin ok, and have you in my prayers, and will ever have you in my heart
