Hi Kimmie...

I know this is a frightening time... facial swelling is not fun...

Please rule out any other possible issues before ruling it as RSD swelling...
(if you haven't already that is...) Could also be sinus related or dental related....

My face swells off and on but it also turns bright red and ice cold when it does this.... mine happens on one side or the other... never swells both sides at the same time.

I wish you well!!!!

Abbie

Kimmie,
More info, Please?

I Absolutely KNOW that this is not a good time to ask, but, You must clarify, what it is that you're asking!

My face swells with the RSD.
Bi laterally.
Sometimes,
I call myself , fat face.

Maybe some NSAIDS? Sometimes Aspirin or Motrin works wonders on the swelling.

Call your neuro!

Remember,
RSD, is an Evil Witch of a disease!
It will play, all sorts of evil tricks! Just to throw you off!

You must be, just as wily!

I hope that you are!

Don't EVER let it get you down., EVER!

It's YOUR body!
Not the rsd's!
You must somehow, sometime, TAKE control!
F' those nerves!

Take it back!

Put up a fight!

Kimmie,
We're NOT gonna let you give up the fight!!
We love you too much!

Lightbulb

As we age, we sometimes get stones in the salivary glands.

This can cause a swelling on the side affected. People with dry mouth from inflammation like Sjogren's or from side effects from
drugs are more prone to this. If it becomes totally blocked, surgery may be needed. My doctor recommends sucking on a sour candy a couple of times a day to stimulate saliva production. Give that a try.

Ear infections also can do this, or a throat infection that occurs only on one side. Painless swelling should always be evaluated because swollen lymph nodes with no pain could be lymphoma.

So if it persists you really should see a doctor.

Kimmie,
What does your neuro say about the swelling?

I get it in my face and my feet, sometimes in my hands.
Ice packs work, (with a towel of course), as do NSAID,s aspirin, motrin, aleve.
And, motion!
Try taking a walk. Get your blood circulating.
Sometimes Allegra helps. (allergy prescription). That's for your neuro to answer.

Sometimes, I can't get my shoes on.

I'm 52 also.

Call your neuro, and ask his/her advice!

Here for you!
BE BLESSED AND BETTER!

Pete

Dear Pete,

Be careful with the ice - because ice and RSD usually don't mix.

Kimmie, hi I have this often and then get a lesion behind my ear. Mine is a combination of the facial nerve which affects the jaw line, gums, teeth, face etc. Also your immune system is involved with the rsd, and lymph nodes can fill and swell.
I had to have two nerve blocks done on the myofascial nerve in my neck. that was done on the side of my neck up in Philly. It was also affecting my tongue, swelling difficulty swallowing. so the procedure has become a bit of and emergency. Dr. S knew what it was immediately- he ordered the nerve blocks up there - in Philly. It had to be done twice but then it worked and the swelling went down. I too was a fat face. Think about this block with your PM, it really helped me. Good luck. and God bless, CZ
