If she "spent at least part of the last decade relying on painkillers and Chinese medicine to quietly combat her injury-induced chronic debilitating pain" then what is she relying on now?

Thanks for the link - I just read it too. You can't tell. Bummer. Makes it sound like she either went into remission, or only uses Chinese medicine (as if!!).

Outrageous

I readin our local newspaper today that Paula's 15th surgery 'cured' her from RSD. I think it is a shame that she is promoting or encouraging a cure when so many people suffer from RSD with no relief. She should use her fame to help promote fundraisers and awareness for RSD, but instead she makes a mockery of it. A real shame.

Did the article state what surgery cured her RSD?

I did some searches but didn't find any articles like that.
If the newspaper name had been mentioned we could search it...new members can't post any links for awhile.

article mentions 15th surgery at the very bottom

I saw her on a TV show...and the surgery I think if I recall correctly was a cervical (neck) procedure.

It states in the story that her pain was reduced.
It does NOT say her RSD was cured.

This article is quite confusing:

I think the media can be pretty inaccurate, and only says what the press releases give them.

I wonder if this was it - just last August, doesn't give any details though... secret neck surgery...

http://www.popcrunch.com/paula-abdul...y-august-2008/

[American Idol judge Paula Abdul underwent a secret surgery
on her neck earlier this month in a bid to relieve the chronic pain she has suffered for 20 years.

The 46-year-old’s persistent problems with pain began with a cheerleading mishap when she was 17. The symptoms were later exacerbated by a 1987 car accident.

Doctors at the Olympia Medical Center in Los Angeles performed a delicate procedure on Paula’s neck and spine during a five day hospital stay.

“Paula was about to begin another season of “Idol” living in constant pain,” a source reveals in the September 1 edition of the National Enquirer. “Auditions for the show begin in New York at the end of August, and she wanted to make sure she was feeling her best before hitting the road.”]

She said on Nightline that she NEVER took any painkillers of any kind at all!!! Liar!!!! I have said it once and I'll say it a million times, there is no way she has rsd. She's never had it. In the story published in the link put up by Chemar it says she was an addict. I can't believe a word that comes out of her mouth. She makes us all look like a bunch of junkie addicts with psych problems. I wish they would STOP saying rsd and her name together!!!! *walks off ripping hair out*

Hugs,

Karen

Ugh, I'm tired of hearing about this woman. The "stars" who have some "class" about it, aren't blaming the disease. It seems that her manager wants to use RSD as an Excuse for her bad behavior! Lot of darn good that does us!
She's just showing CYA behavior!
It's the wrong thing to do.
The doctor on that show, seemed to at least straight up about how painful RSD is!

Ms Abdul apparently should have known to "slow down", but chose her priority, and it was fame.
So, take more pills! Yea, why not?

She's not on this "publicity tour" to promote a cure or understanding for RSD! She's only looking to make herself look better, and, that happens at people like OUR expense!

Shame on her!
