I couldn't find it either, if it's on the home page I missed it - so I used the search feature (typed in her name) and found the article in the list. It was about the fourth or fifth one down.

American Pain Foundation-Advocacy Action Alert: Media
In recent days the national media has been covering celebrity Paula Abdul's struggle with pain and her interview that appears in the June issue of Ladies' Home Journal. In this coverage, inaccurate information has been reported that reinforces stigmas and stereotypes associated with pain and pain treatment. Ladies' Home Journal implies negative connotations associated with prescribed pain medication and uses the term "habit" when discussing Abdul's use of pain medication. Read article>>

On Monday, May 4th Fox & Friends anchor Gretchen Carlson mentioned her own recent injury and the use of prescription pain medicine. Gretchen stated she is taking pain medication and "has not become addicted so far." The link is no longer active.

On Wednesday, May 6th CBS Early Show also discussed this topic and Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton inaccurately called pain medications "narcotics" and failed to differentiate between pain medication dependence, tolerance and addiction when she listed the signs of addiction. View>>

TAKE ACTION

We encourage the national media to bring attention to the topic of pain in a responsible and balanced way. We have contacted these media outlets and encourage you to contact Ladies' Home Journal, Fox & Friends and CBS Early Show requesting that their coverage provide balanced and accurate information pertaining to prescription pain medication.

To help in crafting your response, please view pages 27-33 in the Reporter's Guide: Covering Pain and Its Management. These pages will give you some specific information on opioid use and the correct definitions of addiction, dependence, tolerance and abuse. Click here (PDF).

Please include any personal stories on how these perpetual stigmas have affected you or a family member. Keeping in mind that each person's struggle with pain is unique, please respond to the news coverage only, as opposed to commenting on Ms. Abdul's experience. Remember, our voices will be heard when we stand together.

Yep guys, I can recommend that! I have been subscribed for years and they send updates to you to their site, useful articles. They tell you about new support groups, clinical trials, studies, sometimes questions are asked for knowledgeable lawyers in this or that area. So... just do it!

Here's how you subscribe, you go to the font page and scroll, it's in the middle of the page.

This is their e-mail alert archive:
http://www.rsds.org/ealert_archive.htm

It is on the site!
This is the Paula Abdul reference, it's called:

Thanks AintSoBad, I was about to post the samethng, I just received it in my email.

I heard now she is retracting her story, it suppose to be on Access Hollywood or Extra next week.
Give me a break. We all have the right to feel angry for what she is doing. As many of you stated if she really has RSD...then she should come forward and open up honestly about to show the world how much pain we are in and how little there is known about RSD.
Look at all the other celebrities with illnesses, Farah with cancer, Michael J Fox with Parkinson's, Sharon Stone has/had an aneurysm, the list goes on and on, none of them are retracting their illness or what they are going through. They are trying to help others. I applaud them for their honesty ans wish them all the best.

I really was hoping that if and when a celebrity came forward about RSD that it would bring it to the for front for all of us suffering, instead she is making RSD look bad, like it's very minor curable condition.

Well if she has the magic cure please by all means share.
Sorry for the hostility, I can truly say I'm suffering from RSD like the rest of us here and my family suffers with me.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Hi,

On E News last night, they said she never said those things to the Journal and that she was never a drug addict.

Randy Jackson was just on Fox News and he said he had no ideal that she did drugs and that he felt bad for her if she has been through that.

Ryan Seacrest owns the E News as well as American Idol. I think they are trying to clean up her mess so the attention can stay on the show to keep it's ratings up. This is ratings months for TV shows.

I find it hard to believe anyone could be around her and not figure out she is either high on drugs or a few bricks short of a load. You never ever see her act normal on any show she is on.

As far as the RSD. I think she must be so drugged up she can't remember if she has it or not. One day she has it, the next she doesn't. I have heard her retract the fact that she has it twice on tv.

<sigh> I am getting so FED UP with her, it's unbelievable!

angelrsd 05-09-2009 11:54 AM

yea its very apparent that she has been on something. i know that sometimes i act weird from the pain but god lord i dont act like she does period. and i also work and none of our customers would ever think that i had something like this period.

its just to the point to where i wish that she would just shut up period. its enough. with this back and forth crap of i dont/do have rsd or whatever .. i think that she just needs to go back to whatever hole she was in before she came for american idol

I think we all are...but...y'all do realize that threads like this show up on search engines when people type in her name and RSD?

:D Yep. So really, what y'all are doing is spreading the real word about RSD.
