Can you have both hot/ cold types of RSD?

I was discussing this with my physical therapist because it seems like I might...

When I use the whirlpool at 70 degrees on my right arm the water feels warm, and on my left arm the water feels freezing cold! Also, my left arm/ shoulder loves the heat, my right arm/ shoulder hates it.


Though... both of my hands/ arms get really really cold and turn purple at times. They are very much alike in that way.

My left arm seems to have more of the sensitivity to touch, and my right arm has more muscle pain/ problems.

If it is one thing I learned throughout the past 7 years with RSD...

No case of RSD is exactly the same (thus the reason soooo hard to treat)

Personally I am VERY sensitive to the cold... And during the summers here I do much better. Hot water feels like hot water on my good leg and hot water feels like lukewarm water on bad leg... so for me its not the extreme of Hot water to cold water but there is definitely a big difference in temperature..

I've talked about the heat getting to me on here many times but I never seemed to see too many people dealing with that until JoanM said something about it too.

Here it is 9 inches of snow on the ground here and if I get too hot I feel like going out and walking through the snow to cool off. I am constantly turning my thermostat up and down.

When I get in the tub if the water is too hot it sends me into a pain cycle. The only time the cold does is when the barometrc pressure changes.

My right arm is the worst and the left has mirrored rsd pain. I have begged the Drs. too take my right arm off and they all shot that one down.

Heather's right, it seems like all RSD'ers deal with different issues with it.

I don't remember reading in any journal articles about such a variation in temp sensitivity between affected limbs, but will look again.

I'm like Heather--extremely sensitive to cold most of the time, and do better in warm weather than in cold weather. We had a 4-day stretch of 98-100 degree weather this last summer (in Wisconsin!) while we were camping, and I had absolutely no symptoms until we got back into the air conditioned van to drive home.
