Today Mark would have been 42. As many of you know, he went home to be with the Lord last August. He was a fireball of controversy at times. He was a modern John Calvin/Martin Luther......
At one time he was an out-doorsman but his illness and horrible pain struck him down at too early an age! He taught me HTML (not sure what that means) so I could help with his posts. He found it easier to answer my questions on the phone rather than type them. We exchanged phone numbers when my computer crashed. He had a sense of humor that was unusual. In a PM I told him I just came over to borrow a cup of sugar but would settle for the John Whitfield quote. He said "What John Whitfield quote." Huh? The one that he had just posted the day before. Then he wanted to know "Why was I on the computer and not out climbing a mountain or something." That was a very good question. ![]() In spite of his limitations he made a difference in the lives of many. I was trying to find something from his website to post and I found this quote. Lead me to the cross (A Puritan Prayer) O Holy Spirit, Have mercy on me. Move, I beg You, upon my disordered heart. Take away the infirmities of unruly desires and hateful lusts. Lift the mists and darkness of unbelief. Brighten my soul with the pure light of truth. Make my soul . . . as fragrant as the garden of paradise, rich with every goodly fruit, beautiful with heavenly grace, radiant with rays of divine light. Be my comforter, light, guide, sanctifier. Take of the things of Christ and show them to my soul. Teach me more of His . . . love, grace, compassion, faithfulness, beauty. Lead me to the cross and show me . . . His wounds, the hateful nature of sin, the power of Satan. May I there see my sins as . . . the nails which transfixed Him, the cords which bound Him, the thorns which tore Him, the sword which pierced Him. Help me to see in His death, the reality and immensity of His love. Increase my faith in the clear knowledge of . . . atonement achieved, expiation completed, satisfaction for sin made, guilt done away. Mark loved the Lord. He loved Him with all of his heart! See you again one day my friend! ah dear Mark!
Mark & I could agree so clearly on some things but we were so far apart on others! Sometimes he infuriated me and at other times I felt so close to him. ![]() yep..........he was just like a brother ![]() The one thing we absolutely always agreed on was our love for our Lord and, to quote another song Mark loved "I can only imagine" just how wonderful it must be for Mark to finally be pain free in the presence of Jesus Christ! ![]() ![]()

I just want to add this. No wonder Mark was puzzled when I wanted the John Whitfield quote.....it was GEORGE. George Whitfield.
I was looking through the quotes again and found this one. It is my very favorite. He who counts the stars (Charles Spurgeon) "He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!" Psalm 147:3-5 He who counts the stars and calls them by their names, is in no danger of forgetting His own children! He knows your case as thoroughly as if you were the only creature He ever made, or the only saint He ever loved! |
