Home Sweet Home....
Jackie,
you are probably on your way home as I type this! I am so anxious to hear how your trip went! Y'know I'm sittin here thinkin all these nostalgic thoughts of how NONE of us would even be able to consider the prospect of travelling before our SCS's! And NOW look at us!! We're ALL OVER the place! Several of us have been coming and going.... Fiona just got back! Jenna will have a heck of story to share! I'm so grateful for these little monsters ...(the SCS's) .... not to confuse me in saying that Fiona and Jenna are monsters :D Even tho we've had a few grievances here and there with our units, I am really appreciative of these stories we are able to share with one another because of the improvement in our quality of lives that these mechanisms have allowed us to have. Anxious to hear from you Jackie and I sure hope you didn't have a hard time keeping yourself painfree!:grouphug::hug: Rae |
Hadn't thought of that......

Im back!!!!
 Hi everyone Im back!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend as we did. Im absolutely wrecked now though. Exhausted would be a good word too. But it was so nice to get to see my son again and where he lives and works. He was loving has us there too and showing us around and how to use the tube:rolleyes:didnt have the heart to tell him that we have travelled many times on the underground both in New York and London as he was doing such a good job!! Anyway I have written on Jenna's thread about my incidents on approaching the scanners both in Dublin and Stanstead airports so am pasting it here so you can read it here too.;) I left Ireland on Friday and when we went up to the security I said to the guy handing out the trays that I had a medical implant. Now at this stage I did have my 'remote controller' my programmer, in my hand to turn off the stim. He called over a lady. She looked at me and I told her I had a medical implant, explained what that entailed...and she said, 'ok so whats that in your hand?' I explained it was a remote control controller etc , so I turned off my stim and put the controller into the tray along with all my other possessions. Then she told me to come around past the scanner. She then did a body search and said ' thats fine thank you' and off I went. Now coming back from London on Sunday evening was a bit different. I came up to the scanner again and there was a lady at the trays. I leaned in to speak with her, not wanting everyone to hear my business, and said that I had a medical implant and couldnt use the scanner. She looked at me rather oddly... I had my card(which I might add I didnt have to use in Dublin) and said, look its all on there, where it explains no MRI's Diathermy etc....so she looked very puzzled. So she called to a man, I reckon a manager. She said ' this lady has some kind of thing in her back' and handed him the card. He looked more puzzled than she did. So she asked if the programmer could go through the scanner, I told her yes!....then I was beckoned around by the scanner by a lovely young girl. In the meantime the manager is looking at the card and then approached me. He said 'can I use the metal detector' I said WELL NO!!! I said cant you see it says on the card not to etc...now there is a line on it that does say IF a metal detector is necessary then use it swiftly, but I said NO it cant be used. Afterall Ive just had a problem with the battery and didnt want any more hassle all because of a metal detector. So anyway the young girl proceded to ask me if I was in pain and to tell her if she was hurting me. The manager said, we will do a frisk and if we are not happy we will have to do a more thorough onein private!! I just stood there with my arms out........thinking AS IF So she did her 'thing' and yep I was cleared. They then checked my cardigan which I had taken off along with my scarf. I was so surprised to think that these people have NEVER come across anyone in my situation, even a pacemaker Im sure has somethings that arent to be used, ie scanners, metal detectors!! I dunno!! And just to add, I didnt turn off my stim on the plane at all, I just lowered it down because I had a sudden surge when the plane started to take off down the runway, obvious the gravity , so if you are travelling and your stim is on just a word of caution, on landing and taking off it can cause a surge,....but no need to turn it off, at least I didnt and we arrived safely! Well I brought all my meds with me, plus I used them too. Had my stim on full tilt for most of the time..... Met with my aunt and uncle, he is 91 and she is 87 and we went for dinner with them , boy are they agile:Dthey put me to shame, but we had a lovely evening! So arrived home here last night about 7pm exhausted. I felt like I was away for yonks though. So it was early to bed for me. Still quite tired today but we had a great weekend......but I did miss my bed! Now the laundry needs doing.....ahem...thats another job!......but Im relaxing for now :) Hope you all are having a good day! Jackie |
How Wonderful Your Visit
Hi Jackiey-
It is so wonderful that you COULD go to visit, enjoying all of the goings on with your loved ones! Precious!!:yahoo: Thank you for the thorough posting regarding airline screening and procedures, as I am sure it will be helpful for those of us who have not made a jaunt on aircraft in a while. One thing you did confirm for me was the variations in treatment at different airports. Goodness, when I was just a humdrum executive travelling airways sometimes on public transportation. I would be searched differently and with different stages of tension at each airport. Goodness, I am just SURE I looked the part of the terrorist, carrying briefcase, having grey hair and all........:D Now were I to travel, this added complication of the implant may cause more layers of variation, but I DO have two cards, one from the manufacturer and one from my surgeon in hopes they would be of benefit. Maybe someday we will be relegated to trains, buses and ships so the air folk do not feel imperilled.:D Much Thanks Jackiey!:Thanx: Mark56:Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli:[These are for Jenna, whom I hope nears wheels up!] |
Quick Hello
Hi everyone :grouphug:
Just a quick hello to see how you are all doing!? Exhausted this week as my weekend did take it out of me, but hey it was good. Feeling a lot of pain in my back this week, more so than normal:mad: so trying to take it handy as much as I can. Im still waiting for my appointment for my reprogramming, as its just over 6 weeks since the battery was changed. I SO want to get it done....might have to drop a text or two to my Rep to see when she will be coming over again...... Well have a terrific weekend take care Jackie:grouphug: |
