Default Re: vote for change

I am on medicare, medicaid, and food stamps. I worked 30 years. I would like it if those that ran our Government were forced to accept these agiencies for their own needs, let them get wiped out financially by medical conditons, and I am certain things would change. Our system isn't a good one, where the people who are the most frail, are forced into poverty. I have to pay my son rent on my paid for home because of some rule about food stamps. Why? He was not allowed to give me money to pay for my dental care, Why? These things are not right to do to a human being. The whole system is broken, and I really hope the people in power can correct it. I pray for that. ginnie

Me too, Ginnie. I pray for change. It absolutely IS unfair how this whole thing is set up. I'm sorry that you are under their thumb in this way. You've worked 30 years! That should count for something better than to be spyed at thru a microscope to make sure you don't get 'too much' income. How insane is THAT!!

Default Hi Rrae

I wish it were just me it happened to, unfortunately there are alot of older folks in the same boat,. forced to poverty. I just wrote in the SS forum. I have a friend who is 73 and gets Social Security. she cannot live where she does without a part time job at the Publix store nearby. She has a pacemaker, and is killing herself working. She is afraid to retire completely because of finances. I did expect better after working the years I did. My folks taught me if I worked hard, that if I got in trouble with my health, my government would help. Then why do I pay rent on a home I already paid for? It is many people in my area effected by the economy. There are alot of older folks where I live. People retired down here and are getting smashed with the economy.
I also will keep the folks hit by storms in my prayers tonight. It seems much of the country and its people need the prayers. ginnie

Hi everyone, could do with a bit of advice. For some reason on Saturday afternoon I started with a lot of pain in my back, it was a bit like the days following the operation. Saturday night it was really bad, then yesterday it was still pretty bad. The pain was a lot worse when getting up and sitting down, walking etc, it eased when sitting down. The pain also feels worse when the unit was switched on. I switched it off for a couple of hours as a test. Also I think (or am I being paranoid) the unit and / or leads have moved, it feels very different through the skin.
Today has been a bit better than yesterday and certainly better than Saturday night. I'm not sure what to do. I'm worried I'm being paranoid about it having moved but I can't figure out why I'm getting pain. I noticed Lynn's post re leads moving, anyone any ideas?

Heart Dear Rachel

With all surgeries there are going to be post surgical healing pains that are difficult at times from the patient perspective to describe. These do not necessarily mean you are experiencing troubles. Your doc or physician's assistant are best to help you understand what may be occurring.

For instance scarring occurs inside, and one begins to feel that nuance of sensation, all of the while becoming accustomed to the feeling of the wire leads which convey the signal from the generator to either paddles or percutaneous leads, and I have definitely felt the tracing of that scarring as it took place within my body. The more noticeable invasions, the laminectomy for the paddles and the buttock pocket for the generator did ache longer, but settled in.

Now, if I think to observe these phenomena in my body, I have become aware they are part of the gizmo named Mark, and they are very definitely part of what makes me capable of the human function of earning a living. Time......... I had to give it time.

This is what I can offer this evening, and I truly hope it is beneficial.
Prayin,
Mark56

Frown Really struggling :-(

Hi guys, hope you are all doing ok, sorry I have been missing for a couple of months, I will catch up reading all your threads.
I'm really struggling and having to re think my future. I have been trying to study to be a radiographer, it's something I have always wanted to do, I have been struggling my way along the course for almost 2 years but have finally come to the end of being able to struggle and I just can't do it anymore, the pain is just too much. Maybe I was silly trying to do the course as on placement I have been going through hell to try and get through each day. The last week has been the end of the radio for me and I just can't do it any longer. I feel like a failure and feel I have let a lot of people down. My boyfriend and family are very supportive but I'm so worried as I now have no job and not sure what to do. I'm annoyed I haven't been able to get through it but my foot pain is just getting worse and worse.
I was hoping the spinal cord stimulator was going to help but when I am working in the hospital I have to have it turned down so it's almost not on at all. Also in the last week the unit has moved again across my back which is causing discomfort and disrupting the stimulation as well.
I'm really disappointed as I feel like I have failed. It's just causing me so much more pain I can no longer deal with it and do it.
Apologies for such a negative post just had to get it of my chest, and I know that you all will understand more than most people.
Thanks for listening,
Rachel xx

Default Hello Rachel

I read your post, and I can sure understand your disapointment over the loss of your job. You are not a failure. Things happen in life that sometimes you just cannot predict, and sometimes they do lead to the loss of a job you really wanted to do. You gave this your best effort, and that is all any of us can do. We give all we can, then if we fail, it isn't so bad. I believe something else will happen for you. Maybe it won't be your dream career, but another direction can present itself to you. Grief is allowed you know, it hurts to loose something we worked for. This happened to me too. I had a 30 year career, I had to give it up, and I was successful at it all that time. I didn't want to leave my career, I had to because of my pain. I do understand many of the emotional issues regarding the loss of goals you wanted. Believe something will come into your life, that can yet bring happiness. I hope that your stim, can be adjusted to be more effective for your pain control. I may have to face a similar position where once again, I will have to present myself and see if I qualify for one for my ankles. Know that I care about you, and that I am very sorry this happened to you. Your family sounds wonderful for all their support, they are there for you when you need them the most. Don't feel bad about printing a post that is sad, I do this too, and the responses I get help comfort me. I wish you all the best Rachel, and hope that your life can get better. ginnie
