Hi Yellow,
The very best of luck for tomorrow, it will go fine for you, try not to worry you will be amazed at how awake you feel when they wake you during the trial. Take care, have a nice bath if you're able for it. All the best Sinéad Quote:

I am thinking of you and praying that you will have wonderful results. Do you know that my trial has been put off until October 21st. I was devastated when I got the news, bUt my uncle died on Sunday. I was looking after him for about 15 years. There was so much to organise for the funeral. I had loads of people calling. All my cousins form Dublin were down. I am shattered today. I really would not be able for the trial tomorrow. I really do not know what is going to be done to me. I was told that there were to be no more trials as we knew them. Instead there is a procedure called Thermal Lesioning. I am not happy about this. I really wanted to experience the SCS. I am all muddled up and fed up. My pain levels are so high. I could not sleep a wink on Tuesday night with pain. Life is pretty tough right now.

Hi Patrcia,
I am very sorry to hear about your uncle, I presume he hasn't been well for a long time and when you aren't well yourself it makes things so much harder. In terms of your pain I can certainly relate to how you're feeling, my revision surgery is a week after yours, DO'K has put me off so many times, he would be telling me yea next week, P kept saying there isn't anything, then he'd tell me it was sorted, in the end I just gave up, he's an awful man for messing about and that's the one thing I don't like about him. I too am in bits, I can't do anything, I'm trying very hard to keep working but that is sooo hard I really don't know how long I can keep this up. I'm not sleeping very well, last night I had such awful nightmares, I woke up screaming. I've heard of this procedure, i think it's called an IDET before I heard about the SCS I was seriously consideringthis procedure done but it was only available in the UK and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I too didn't like the sound of it. Try to hang on, thankfully we have the support of our families and here too, without it I don't know where I'd be. All the best Sinéad xxx Quote:

Hi Sinead,
Thank you for your message of sympathy. My Uncle has been ill since January. He had Myloma and it was a tough struggle for him in the past month or so. He was 95 and had fantastic health until this year. We lot have not been so fortunate in life. Living with chronic pain is a tough cross to bare. Thank God for this forum where we all understand and empathise with one another. To understand chronic pain one has to experience it but I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I know what you mean by D.O.K. I was told about 5 weeks ago that he might be away this weekend. Three weeks ago I rang to be told that he would definitely be available. I went ahead and booked the flights. On Monday I was told he would be away. I am not holding my breadth for the 25th either. Thanks for info on this new procedure. I will google it to see if I can find out more about it. Sorry to hear of your awful pain. I really don't know how you manage work. It is so hard on you. I don't have a mortgage but now I have to live on fresh air. Take care, Patricia |

Patricia, I'm really sorry about your uncle and that your trial has been delayed. I can imagine how hard it must be for you. I really hope that these next few weeks go by quickly for you and you get some great relief from your trial.
Finally I'm home and able to relax! And the news is great, my SCS is working well and I'm having good pain relief!! The surgery went really well- they got the lead placement just right on the first try. My doctor's really happy with the coverage, which is from a little above my hips to my toes on both legs. My rep said that it went "awesome" She spent a lot of time with me after setting the programs and showing me how to use the remote. I have 4 programs so I'll have to do a lot of experimenting in the next couple days to see what I like best. My back is super sore, which is expected. The worst part of the procedure was definitely the part after they asked me all of questions until I was done, because I was wide awake for all of it and boy did it hurt in my back! But I made it through. Pain medicine is helping with it, but I've been more limited in what I can do today because of the soreness. What worries me though is that I just noticed a little while ago when looking in the mirror that there appears to be a dime sized spot of blood coming through the dressing. I hadn't noticed if it was there before or not. So I'm going to check it again soon to see if it looks the same. I really hope I didn't pop the stitch or something! So I came home, ate, and then went to physical therapy. I was expecting to be able to do very little today because that's what my doctor had initially told me, but due to the request of my PT he called her this morning and when I got there she told me what he said I was able to do today. I was able to actually get through quite a bit, which made me very happy! I took it slowly and carefully. My PT also helped me with things like how to get in and out of the car, how to do certain chores around the house, and how to pick things up off the floor, which was really helpful. Since getting the SCS working today my pain has ranged from a 3-5, which I'm very happy with! I'm still getting used to the tingling increasing and decreasing when I change positions. I also got to have the experience of feeling what it feels like when I sneeze, which luckily I knew what would happen ahead of time. I have to say I'm very happy with the results so far and so grateful for this pain relief I'm receiving!! |

Yellow, I'm glad it's going well so far...
Patricia, my mom passed away from the same thing a few months ago. (I can't remember if I mentioned that before or not--sorry if I'm repeating) I'm glad that your uncle at least had a long, healthy life. Sophie, I'm sorry that the wait has been so difficult for you. I hope that you get a break soon, dear!

Oh Yellow!!! How fantastic to learn of your news!! No doubt you will check out that spot of blood, and learn it is not too uncommon, given that the Trial is effected with a large gauge needle through which the leads are passed so one invasion of your dural space is made. Once that is withdrawn, your tissue begins to calm a bit, bleed a bit, ache as is expected..... but then you realize the soothing feel of that stim if it turns out to effectively treat your situation. Thank you God, for the invention of these devices, for your Trial so far, and that you have been able to carefully continue with PT.
Prayin the rest of your Trial goes wonderfully!!! Mark56 |
