Yes, it could be. For two reasons...
1) only about 50% or less of people are successful with shingles vaccine. 2) the variety of the virus used in the vaccine is different from wild strains people may have. A rash presenting on only one side of the body, with pain present, is highly indicative of shingles. The vaccine is not terrific...don't rely on it. Also, keep that skin clean, and use hydrogen peroxide on it. Put antibiotic ointment on the lesions if they are open. Shingles, will depress your immune system, allowing staph and other germs freer access to your body. Cellulitis and secondary infections are common with it. |
Thank YOU VERY MUCH
Knowing this is keenly important to all of us MrsD, and I am grateful my post inspired your sharing for the benefit of all! This rash appeared right away after the SNRB surgical injections, presented uniformly around face, neck, and torso, Small red lesions as though an immense immediate outbreak of acne [I am a little old now for acne], and have not been bothersome at all aside from looking peculiar.
My mother had shingles, a virulent, unrelenting, extremely painful case of it as was also the case with a close friend. I have been keeping clean, although had not thought of the hydrogen peroxide, so I will apply that as I shower in a moment. I will also definitely bring this up to Doc today and tomorrow as a query in this particular patient presentation. The excrutiating pain I have been feeling is a manifestation of the nerve impingement at the C6/C7 nerve roots bilaterally affecting both arms, and producing total numbness of the appendages as well...... one would think the numb arms would not experience pain..... au contraire!! C'est incroiable!! The pain makes me sob and did so before last Friday. My inability to even hold a pen to sign my name was especially telling in Doc's opinion. Of course, I am not driving presently, as numb hands do not a good combination with a steering wheel make. Your apt, complete, and compassionate guidance are especially appreciated MrsD, Mark56:hug: |
The pain may be coming from the dorsal roots, along the spine.
Shingles attacks these. Viruses, toxins, drugs, and compression can affect the dorsal roots: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorsal_root_ganglion More at this thread:This link discusses the new form of MRI that can actually visualize damage to the dorsal roots. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread147771.html another diagram: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=dorsa...9,r:3,s:0,i:84 |
When in doubt, check it out. I am sick of popping up with things that I am not supposed to be able to have for one reason or another. You don't want to wait until there is a full blown flair. Gentle hugz and fierce prayerz.

A microbiologist's view...
Just wanted to chime in here regarding shingles...I wouldn't freak out too much about this, but may be worth mentioning your concern to your doc.
If you had shingles - the simple act of showering would be unbearable due to the pain. Before I had shoulder surgery - I had MANY steroid injections in my shoulder, with the exact effect you are describing - horrible acne on my arm chest neck and face. It also caused me to miss my period for the next 2-3 months. The steroids used for injection are strong - and will affect your body in many ways. So again - based on what you are describing, don't fret :) |

Had interaction with you months ago regarding sister-in-law that came down with shingles of face and head around Thanksgiving. She previously had the shot to protect against shingles. Unfortunately, the shot is not a guarantee. Gerry |
Keep on smiling Mark .. I know you are, I can feel it. X x x all our positive energy vibes surround a dear friend who has been such a support to so many. X x

God is good
: o)Gotta smile, because one way or another this will be looking better in the long run. I love those prayers and energy filled thoughts!
Surgical injections again, four, two anterior, two posterior a week from today, same song, a verse I don't wanna sing, but at 6:30 next Friday morn, we last ditch it on the steroid front. This has to be done and soon because of the fear of permanent damage to the arms Doc feels if we don't apply max attention. So, it it works, maybe we avoid the scalpel. IF NOT, definitely going fusion and soon. He says my recovery will be protracted from a fusion because my body has, well been through a bit. Such would be my 33rd surgery. Almost enough..... right? On a very positive note, I received word yesterday from the New York Court of Appeals I have been invited for interview and swearing into that Bar, so I will be able to practice there. Date for that is August 23rd..... maybe I'll be recovered from fusion if such is the mandated path. Things do look bright and beautiful with God illuminating the way. I am thrilled to be able to extend my practice. Also, I do not have Shingles....... and thank you MrsD for bringing such information to the forefront!!! You are a rockstar on this blessed place!!! A round of Atta Girl for MrsD!!! Thank you all for the continued prayers. We are going to definitely need them here in this household. My spirit is high, God is GREAT, and we will make Jericho look like a Candlelight party..... right? Loving all of you, my friends, Praying for you too, Mark56:grouphug: |
Dear Mark
So good to hear from you and you do sound upbeat which is a blessing too.
Im praying for you that you wont need the surgery;)....fusions are no joke, Ive had two, they do take it out of you. But then you know the drill too, only too well....so Please God these injections etc will do the trick and the scalpel can be avoided. Congratulations on your forthcoming interview, Ive no doubt whatsoever that you will be successful. Again we will all be thinking of you and look forward to celebrating with you then :) I hope young Samson is thriving and that your Son and DIL are coping well with parenthood. Its tough for young parents but we have all been there, done that and bought the t-shirt etc.....its not easy but its a lovely experience too. Well Mark take care of yourself and we all look forward to hearing your updates and thankfully they are sounding positive too. Bye for now Jackie  |
