DARN that scar tissue! You'd sure think that with all our modern medical technology, there'd be an easy way to get rid of scar tissue! You mentioned that ultrasound is a possible means of this, which I didn't know about. (Learn sumthin new every day!) There are several people here who would be able to get better means of pain relief if scar tissue could be taken out of the equation. I work for a radiation oncologist.....hmmm I wonder if it could be BURNED away via radiation!

I'm glad the moist heat is working so well!

Hmmm if we get creative there must be some way to get rid it, right?

Ultrasounds have been used on me before in PT after other surgeries to reduce scar tissue, but I could see where there would be worry with possibly dislodging a lead. I just hope my doctor has some solution because the one program I can use right now causes very uncomfortable pain in my back, so it's very give and take.

Focusing on the positives for Christmas though- at least I do have one SCS that works for my wrist pain!

I finished the semester of grad school on Thursday, so I now have a lot more free time these next couple weeks! Truly though, I feel so blessed to be in this program, because I know it's exactly where I'm supposed to be and I know that this career path is exactly the right one for me, and it's such a peaceful feeling to know that.

I did go forward with the bier blocks, I'm having my 6th and final one on Friday, and then I don't know what's going to happen after that, if anything. These blocks are lasting longer than any other blocks I've had before, which is very encouraging on the one hand, but on the other hand, this latest one still just lasted 37 hours and then the pain came back to how it was. The RSD has also spread to the bottom of my left foot as well as the ankle, which has been difficult especially with the allodynia, because all surfaces touching the bottom of my foot drive my crazy with pain. I also started back to physical therapy again last week for this, so I'm hoping that will help some with the pain.

My SCS's are both giving me trouble at the same time right now, though, as luck would have it. Remember back in June when my stimulation was cutting in and out and shocking me in my legs? That's happening again. I'm not too worried as my rep was able to easily fix it the last time as it was probably scar tissue that broke free, but I hope there will be enough good contact points left to get the coverage I need after having to work around 2 spots now.

Then my cervical SCS was on 1 bar so I charged it. After about 2 hours of charging it now cannot even turn on at all because the battery went low. I don't understand how it went down? So wish me luck as I try charging it again tonight, and hopefully it'll work this time.

Ahhhh the adventures of having stimulators, right?
Thank you for this post. Reading about your experiences with the SCSs renews my faith in mine. I am so sorry about the scar tissure breaking up. That happens and a good rep should be able to fix it. Many congrats on the educational route you have chosen. I too live in chicago and worked for years in Infant Mental Health and Early Childhood Development. You will always have a job and with what you have and are going thru, you will have empathy and compassion few others have. Good luck and sweet new year to you. drcandy

Heart Scar Tissue

Well, I have been subjected to two proposed methods of breakdown of such tissue.....; namely,
1. Deep tissue massage focused on the point or points of the issue, marked with an X at each end by the Doc, and
2. Deep tissue acupuncture performed by a wisened Chinese medicine practitioner from the old country just certain his method would break up unwanted scarring.

Sorry to say, there was no demonstrable evidence in my situation pointing to either as supremely helpful. I share so it may be thought through in your situation..... hoping and praying,
Mark56

Not sure; but assume you would like to be addressed as Yellow?? Anyway, I have been under the Care of my current Pain Specialist for a few years now; but about 5 months after spinal fusion/laminectomy, (6 years ago) had seen a pain specialist who wanted to do a procedure in hospital (day) to rid any possible scar tissue. Since it was in my opinion, too soon to have anyone mess while I was still attempting to fuse; declined. Also, did not return to that particular doctor.

A few years ago, with my current pain doc, had under light sedation injections in an attempt to lessen my pain. The last procedure he had done was to break up any scar tissue in that area. Don't remember what the procedure was called; but didn't help me. But, the reason I mention this is because there is a procedure that is suppose to break up scar tissue.

Really sorry you are having so many issues. You have a very bright future ahead.

Thumbs up

Thank you Ger and Mark! So there really ARE methods focusing on the ridding of scar tissue ..... and here I thought I was the first human being EVER to brainstorm this idea .

Sounds like, despite the well-meaning attempts that have been made tho,
it is difficult to get promising results. Well, it's good to know that it 'can' be done, however a bit risky - especially when messing around electrodes.

Rae,
My problem was not really with scar tissue. It was just a last resort procedure my Pain doc wanted to address( just in case) before the "trial" SCS. But it is a procedure that is available. Not sure about the risk involved with the electrodes of a SCS tho.

Thank you drcandy for your kind words, they definitely made me smile I hope to see you continue posting around here!

So it's good to know that there are procedures out there. I'm sorry to hear that they didn't seem to work for anyone though. Maybe another reprogramming session will help as well, but if possible, I'd really like to be able to get rid of the scar tissue because if I don't I know it'll just keep causing problems for me down the line. But for now I'll just have to keep waiting until January 8th to see what he says. The waiting game- it's something that all of us have to deal with but I don't think we will ever get used to My doctor only sees patients on Tuesdays so he lucked out this year with how the holidays fell!

dear Yellow

as the forum began with my heartfelt joy
you had a memorable experience with a
caring human who was interested in your pain
and giving his full attention to you and find
relief blessed is that human with compassion
bless all the light bulbs that go off when
experience strength and hope Rrae you keep on
with your brainstorming you do it every time you
share a bright positive human you are no one knows
their body like you
Mark and many others have the spinal cord simulator
i opted out not to have a pain pump or the SCS as there are many who haven't
AS FOR THE REASON WHY:

lies lies lies
fear distrust from the top of the totem pole
all the way down to the porters who cleans the offices
at every institution hospitals doctors caretakers
insurance companies

so Yellow
as my shrink continues to say to me
"Eva are you surprised"
you all know my answer will always be "yes"
i am not a glutton for punishment
i don't know why i am who i am
an the fact that someone in the
profession they choose to undertake
and take it seriously are the ones i take
the time out and say thank you what a great
job might i have the name of your supervisor and
let it be known what a great job the worker was
bravo to all who are like so
