Tongue Been a while

Hi all! It's been a while since I've posted anything. But my SCS trial went great got 50%-60% relief. Now it's just at the point where I have a lot of questions. I'm really not worried of what will happen to me I'm just worried about having kids (I'm 24) and if the SCS will harm a baby. I go see my GYN tomorrow and if everything checks out then my big day will be Jan 25, 2013.

I'm scared of the surgery and scared of the pain I will be in b/c for my trial I was in tears b/c of the pain. I think I will talk with my dr and tell him my concerns and see if I can stay in hospital just over night to have those "extras" extra people the nurses, pain meds for the pain. I would at least have less anxiety if my dr says ok.

Other question is do I want the rechargeable SCS or a regular SCS? I need input from you great people out there

So just an update on me. I hope everyone is doing well and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I appreciate you all!

Ashley

It's great to hear from you again Ashley!

Hmmmm, regarding the pain during the procedure, you can 'boss' your doc around a bit by saying 'oooouuuuCH'. He'll shoot some more of the local numbing agent in and around the incision he's working on.
The first few days after the procedure are a bit sore of course. Take it real easy those days, lay comfortably, gentle ice packs on the incision and hopefully you'll be provided with ample pain meds.
I think it's a good idea to ask if you can stay overnight. If insurance doesnt allow it, then have someone near you around the clock at home to tend to you.

That's amazing the doctor is giving you the option of rechargable or not.
It depends how long the nonchargable one is expected to last. I'm not very familiar with them.
Our other friends will be right along my dear!
We've always got your back

So glad you're back!

I know what you mean about being in pain during the surgery. They always gave me more local but I could still always feel it- ouch! Do speak up, though, that it is hurting you

I went with the rechargeable units because the battery life is significantly longer (my Boston Scientifics can possibly last all the way up to 10 years), and I didn't want to have to have surgery every couple years to replace the battery. Also, the rechargeable units are actually smaller than the nonrechargeable ones, so it's a smaller thing inside of you. To be honest, there are days where I have issues with my charging or simply don't have time to sit for hours to charge where I start to regret choosing the rechargeable option. But all I have to do is think of how much longer the battery lasts and I'm ok.

I can say "ouch" until the cows come home and that makes little difference. On the other hand, if I lift my head up and try to look around, he calls out for more Versed. They want you laying still.

There are scs's that aren't rechargeable? I'm sitting here charging wondering how they work. Interesting. What kind are they? My battery lasts 10 years supposedly with the charger. That's really cool.

That's what I kinda remember hearing from someone awhile back. I assume that's why you don't really see many of those with the non-rechargables.
