Smile Blessed

Two big accomplishments this week:

1) biked up old la Honda road in under 20 minutes - "semi-pro" speed per a book I read - really hard!!!

2) faced my demons - bilateral lower leg crps with SCS vs. powder skiing. I did 8 runs pretty quick. "lean back" as a rap artist has said. Taking my son tomorrow - cant wait! He's expert with the snowball - 3 head shots including an iceball that cut me. Great father son time!

My life isn't easy, but I cherish everything now and I am all that i can be. That a painkiller!

Good to See you! Did you see you have a namesake? Please please be careful. Don't want to jerk those leads out. Means redo, more heal time, SUX

Default Namesake?

Namesake? Who? I hit the forums only once in a while, but I like to be out there to get people to push themselves to do what they think no longer possible. Skiing - I thought impossible until I put the old planks on.

These leads are cemented in- very glad to have a paddle and to "scar like crazy" per my neurosurgeon. I'd have to break my back to yank em. Wasn't skiing hard enough to do that. Just have to make sure I don't take out an ACL or something- that would be a problem.

It was a bizarre experience. Very bizarre. I saw a lift sign that said "do you know there are 3 US resorts that still outlaw snowboarding?" I looked at the lift operator and said Alta, Sundance, Mad River Glen - he was confused - I pointed at the sign. It was opening an old, wonderful book if only for a few hours. Well winter might be near it's end, but if I can keep at it, there will be a next year.

Skied for a few hours with my son, but he was more interested in throwing snowballs in the firepit. Whatever floats his boat! We did several runs.

Got home, power intervals on the bike - getting ready for bike touring season and maybe a couple amateur hillclimb races .

dear MD

I oh so can feel what you speak of
feel it and power the body is
is capable of
i had a work out regimen
i stuck with a for about 10
years started with 4 mile walk
squats with light weights
100 sit ups everyday

3 days out of week light
weights no more than 15lbs
legs different story
laying on the bench is long gone
and now i'm in bed
laying on the floor most times
when its me and my grandchild

my life span had all kinds of
sport my favorite
volley ball in the sand
the feel of my toes gripping the
sand under them

you are one of the true lucky ones
on this site forum thread whatever
truly for you paddles to have become one
in such a bond (you can't ask for any better)
statistically you fall into the percentile
of excellent outcome
rare
with an awesome fusion
do you as a not dare devil
not dancing with the devil
but taking heed
or better yet
are you conscious as you
triumph in you play hard
way of life
pushing the body
do you feel it could break away
remember just that one fall

in my case different of course
have terrible problems the now third
ortho surgeon Chief of his local
fresh MRI
comes back and said
"eva, i will would not
do any surgery (LUMBAR)
now supersedes the failed
ACDF 5/6-6/7 failed to fuse
PCDF a year later (all i can say my life
changed permanently with his work)
permanent pain

spend to much time in the bed
in the day i try to find projects to
entertain the simple everyday chores
at one time a breeze as OCD
err to the side of order
there is what i call a home for
everything
for me a simpler way of living

i just am trying to say in a nice way
i used to put some men to shame
so
are you aware of your blessed outcome
kick derriere
love life with your boy
and family
definitely only good intentions
i apologize if i crossed the line

Default delighted to hear

I am just thrilled for you Lance!!

You had to put in the work and did..(to the Nth degree)...you so deserve the results you have...what a gift to be on the slopes again.

I can hear an entire different "tone" to your writings...hope...yeah that is what it is and looking forward to the future...just grand!!

Seems the kids are being kids...I hope that "we" on the slopes was your wife.

I know your recovery shows in your work so that is gratifying for you also.

Oh I am so thrilled for you!!

Hi ,
I am new to the site and am your namesake. I read your posting and was very inspired. I am a very keen skier both on hill and backcountry. This all came crashing to a halt 3 years ago...simple ACL tear on a great powder day with my son..then 3 years of hell with a neuropathic pain syndrome brought on by arthroscopy. Tried just about every medicine and therapy known to man. haven't been able to work in the ER since and just about all physical activity has stopped .. I've had 2 trials of SCS with so so results and am being considered for DRG stim. I will read more of your story if you direct me where as I suspect I have a lot to be inspired by and learn from your experience . I suspect we have similar backgrounds and paths . Thats why I chose the name Mdinpain2

Hi MD2,

WOW...you two should have quite an interesting conversation.

Go up to top of page to the search and put in MDinPain...all his posts should come up.

He is an inspiration to a few of us.

So sorry on your ACL....I just want you to know some knee surgeries do turn out good. My ACL was shattered...replaced with a great surgeon and I was adamant about rehab....this knee is so strong now it has become my dominant and it is my left one.

I am very grateful nothing set in and no complications
all my best
Johanna

Exclamation It's been a while - sorry to have to welcome a colleague

Been off the forum for a while. MD powder day neuropathic pain syndrome MD in pain 2 - say it ain't so! I know what you are going through. It sucks MDinpain2.

I'm still doing pretty well except i strained my calf cycling 2 1/2 weeks ago - had gotten really good as in enough power to look at racing. Now I've got an injury in the crps zone. I have cut back, but it's hard to know how much to do so. I see the muscle twitching and know that the healing will be slow. Plus the scs covers up muscle pain to an extent. Makes rehabbing the injury extremely complicated.

I'll be back to my full pre-strain strength, but it's frustrating to have crps and a real calf strain. The high of 3 hours of intense aerobic exercise - it's cut off for the time being. I need to be smart about it - today i learned the hard way - even riding slower no big hill climbs yet - too much force.

Guess more swimming for now - I'm a decent swimmer, but it's boring! It's strange I get the burning in my back for 10 minutes then it fades away.

Low grade whole body crps / high grade below knees. Scs has been very helpful for that. The other stuff i live with.

Hardest part beyond pain is fatigue. Mdinpain2 - if you're able to go back to work- you're going to need caffeine and be willing to take pain. I get up everyday feeling cruddy, but i force myself to work. I'm better off being there.

It's the little things i miss -not worrying, good
Sleep, tons of energy, total focus on my kids without effort. Gone. Considering my situation I'm doing great, but it's an uphill climb & harder when I can't go climbing!
