Mad A Vent....how do you feel about this?

working at my computer this afternoon when I started hearing strange noises on the outside wall of my office and getting scary electrical flickering inside.

I go outside and find that the yardsmen hired by my next door neighbor are busy mowing, weedwacking, chain sawing dead branches etc....all via MY electric outlet on the outside wall, to which they had a wonky power adapter attached drawing power for all that equipment never mind the danger of running a mower with electric cables running in the long grass next door

apart from the potential fire hazard to my home from this incorrect use and overload of an outdoor power outlet, I feel this is stealing!! How could they possibly think it ok to plug in to my house for another house's work!

Not much actually gets me really angry, but I was very irate when I confronted them. The one guy looks at me and says "yeah, I guess that wasnt right of us to do"

ya got that part right mate

ok vent over

Well, we northerners sure call it stealing. We call it stupid, also.

You're right.....it was WRONG! I would have told the neighbor they were doing the work for.

at the very least they should have asked permission first!

I might be tempted to call the owner of that business and complain about it.

Did they unplug after you talked with them?
i would have pulled the plug myself

Angry

You know I am an old crochety lady now. I'd have gotten their
license plate number and reported them to police and anyone else who would listen.

That is just TERRIBLE. I've never heard of such a thing!

You are 100% correct, Chemar! It is undeniably, absolutely, and completely theft.

I suspect you were far more diplomatic than I'd have been in such a situation.

Lightbulb

I just told my hubby about this, and this is what HE told me!

Many years ago, before my son was born, the house next door was falling apart, and eventually was torn down.

While I was at work one day (and he never told me this), a crew came to the mess there, and plugged into our porch. We have an outlet there for lights. Well, he saw this, and went outside.
It seems they could not access any power and were milling around. He eventually told them that that plug was on a light
sensor for the front stairs lights. So in the daylight it was inactive.
It would only work in the dark.

So he gave them what for...and they left. So I guess this is more common than people believe or understand.

I would have been much more strident, and perhaps called the police. But that is just me.
Hubby didn't tell me at the time, because he knew how stressed out I was at work. I just hate finding out this way... but that is his STYLE.
