Default Speed died, he was 150

Speed the tortoise who lived at the San Diego Zoo since 1930's died at about 150 yrs and he weighed about 450 lbs. Years ago children could ride Speed at the children's zoo there, but that was stopped. He had arthritis and other issues and was put to sleep as he was in a lot of pain. You can read and see the story online.

That's a very good innings. Poor old Speed. Better he's not in pain anymore. I read about Speed in the news. Very interesting.

I met a distant relative (edited to add - of Speed that is, not me ) called Harriet once, face to face. She lived in Australia Zoo not far away from me. She was pretty darn special too and lived a very, very long life. I posted about her on the Pets forum a long time ago. Here's a link from Au Zoo about Harriet.

I am sorry to learn that.

Seeing Speed was a high-point of my visit to the San Diego Zoo.
