CayoKay 08-17-2008 10:26 AM

but me, Von, I'm FABULOUS, didja notice?

:D

the drake's all plucked, gutted, dressed, and in the fridge... whew!

lotta feathers...

Kitty, I've got 6 drakes, and all 22 mamas are busy on nests, or with baby hatchlings, so the drakes get kinda, er, um, lonely I guess? with no companionship to ease the long jungle days... loafing by the pond, strutting around, and foraging for food...

:D

Yeah, maybe we'll see the difference in our electric bills, if only for half a month. lol

I know....right? There are a bunch of recipes in that thread I want to try.

I just took out some porkchops from the freezer and we'll cook them on the grill this evening. I had some fresh ears of corn and found a wonderful recipe for grilled corn on the cob. It's not easy to prepare, though, as you have to peel the leaves around the corn back, strip out the silk, then pull the leaves back around the corn. Took me quite a while to do that and I still didn't get all the silk out. But you just spread it with butter before you pull the leaves back up and then wrap it in foil and put it down in the hot coals while the meat is cooking. Sooooo good......I add salt and pepper, too, before wrapping it up.

Kelly, that sound so good! I usually just throw the cobs on the bbq husks and all. I think I may try that recipe next time I stop at the farmers market. Yum!

balancing carefully in the mud, in my flipflops, I leaned over, and GRABBED him by the ends of his wings, with both hands, and LIFTED his mangy carcass off my lovely duck.

lol, do y'all think I anthropomorphize too much here?

I get ALL offended when the males assault the females... especially when the wimmin-ducks can't fly away, because they've got eggs or babies.

lol, feminism doesn't fit very well on a farm, I've noticed...

:p

anyway, to answer your question Frank, we didn't lose ANY eggs, I nipped the crime in the bud... before any damage could be done.
