I'm having a garage sale on Saturday to clean out some clutter and make some extra $$.
I got an unexpected check in the mail yesterday for $350. It was a refund on the homeowners insurance I had paid through June of this year. I had totally forgotten all about it!! That will almost cover my car payment for this month!! I'm not looking at it as extra "fun" money, tho. It'll just be an extra cushion for me 'cause I know I'll need it next month. I've got a lot to do today to get ready for this sale. I'm looking forward to it because I'll have both of my boys here with me at the same time all day!! I'd rather have that than all the money we'll potentially make. :) |
Getting a check out of the blue are my favorite kind!! :)

having tax season and my birthday all at the same time is fun - always getting money .. and altho my birthday was last thursday ... got $30 today ...
and still have $$ coming in for tax preparing ..and now to get painting and quilting to finish projects ... well, got turned down for the state job .. guess they don't want people with a brain and that I'm organized .. so I'll just be a 'part' of their program and make the vocational rehab help me establish my own business then, right? |
Ok, I haven't been part of this thread at all. But wanted to share that I refinanced our van and it will be paid off by next April, rather than 8 years! I finally sat down and realized I was spending money that could be used to pay off my debt.
I am making extra payments to the mortgage so it will be down to an acceptable payoff in three years when we move to TN. Oh and did I mention I am putting money in my savings too? Jim asked me if we are going to have any fun now that I made a new budget. LOL It's not easy giving up the money but WOW, we were spending way too much on things we didn't need! |

I just love "found money". Getting checks in the mail and refinancing to save money are great!
Von, I'm sorry you didn't get the State job. Good luck Greenjeans on your new job! |
in a world where you can't find a decent job without relocating to tim-buc-two ... I may of found one that's part-time .. easy hours and something that will help me ... and I could make enough to pay my rent and car payments ... and then be able to have my painting side business to help with the rest - as I do with the tax biz and school loan $$ .. :Excited:
so MAYBE I'll be moving .. just down the road - don't have to change my phone number or address (I have all my mail sent to a PO Box anyways) ... will keep you posted!! :Dancing-Chilli: |
OKAY..........Friends..........
I have an admission of guilt to let off my chest............ I am a junkie............a junk junkie...........I mean craft stuff, fabric, stuff I could live without but just might need someday...keeps finding its way into my cart and my home......... I feel so guilty afterwards...or like when I hear the total of the spending I get all hot and flushed and panic but I go ahead and PAY for it anyway......... I KNOW I dont need it or shouldnt buy it but I do it anyway...I have even over drawn my bank account because I just felt I HAD to buy something......... I NEED HELP....SERIOUSLY....I dont know how to stop....or WHY I do it...... I feel like such a fraud......I lecture my DH all the time about wastful spending but then I do it behind his bak....IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME???? Do I need professional help?????? I know I am saying some of this in a joking kinda way....but its all very true and I am very worried about it!!!!! What do I do? How do I stop????? I am supposed to be saving money for our out west hunting trip this fall and all I can do is spend spend spend..... |

One thing that the leader said in Weight Watchers that has really stuck with me is this: "don't give up what you really want for what you want right now". In my case, I really wanted to lose weight and I realized it wasn't about the food. That phrase kept popping into my head when I was tempted to be bad. I would stop and think about being thin again and wearing a nice swimsuit at the beach. That is what I really wanted - not whatever junk food was tempting me at the moment. My advice is to look at the money you are about to spend and take that exact amount of money and put it in your savings account for your trip. When you see your savings start growing really fast, you will get more of a rush out of that than on buying craft stuff that you don't really need! |

I remember some time back you did work for either the IRS or ar a job that was tax related? Is that just my misconception? Tootsie |
