Here's a way to save money on your car bills, although I don't recommend it.
We go to the same mechanic each time. We have always had older cars so we take them in frequently to be repaired. My DH was driving home from work and got cut off by an 18 wheeler and had to slam on his brakes. He didn't hit the truck but did blow the break line. Since we are frequent customers, our mechanic took of 1 1/2 hours of labor to save us money because they felt bad about how many times we take our cars in. I just think they did it because they know we'll be back over and over and over again! So instead of a huge bill we got a very reasonable one and I could breath a sigh of relief. So I guess we saved money by taking in our cars all the time! |
That's a good idea, if your mechanic will do that.
We ask around too, because your car needs different mechanics - a tire shop, a muffler place, tranny experts, etc. And it helps that the guys ar RR now - they get discounts. Plus my brother has a lot of contacts, so we go in and say "Mike said to tell you he sent us." And that goes a long way. There are up sides to country livin. :D |
Mechanics - my line! I prefer old cars/trucks!
I just don't do transmissions or clutches, although I can - but I don't like to. I never had to take any of our vehicles to shop, I did most all the mechanical work myself. ===================== But as for food - I have 3 plots; Gardening! :D I'm considering starting plot #4 I really want a bee-hive! Had several before, and I don't need no freakin' beekeeper outfit, just a smoker will do just fine! (But it sure does make my neighbors nervous, but on the other hand - they adored the honey! *laughs) I have fruit bearing trees - and one my baby, MANGO! I'm a self-confessed - Mango-holic! I even have Carambola (Star Fruit), Coconut, Loquat, Bananas, and much more. * Yes I live in the Tropic Zone * So this helps a lot on the Grocery Bill itself! I wished I had a bigger plot of land - for I'd own some yard vultures (southern for chickens), a bull with milk'ins (cows), a couple of squealers (pigs), and a Tom and a couple of Hens (turkeys). If I had room, and could afford it - I'd grab a pair of Ostrich - to breed and to eat. And always, a horse. Heck - I wouldn't need to head much to the store, except to the FEED STORE for the barnyard stock! :D |

Hey Southie .. that's great!! I miss the older cars too! but, I can still change a tire if I had to .. .and there are guys that don't even know where the jack in the car is!! LOL
and Kar ... getting to know 'talented' people is always a poz in one's life!! lor - too cool about the grocery wins!! (did the VW come with it?? that would be what I'd like!) LOL kitty - I haven't checked - but I don't need food .. loss of appetite and taste (thx to the dx) ... so I forget to eat!! BGB - can we take Mike with us?? so we can say 'Mike sent us!' ... that's awesome!! OH - because of my disability ... I may be hired by the state of wisconsin 'vocational' rehabilitation's program to be a consultant for others with a disability!! **UPDATE** well, bit by bit ... I'm getting there ... I just (JUST) found out that I qualify for unemployment ... seeing that I'm still waiting for disability! and it's okay for me to attend school ... let's see .. oh, about $250/week .. yes, per week ... it's a start .. .I'll be able to really get caught up this summer - and MAY BE able to buy a new trailer that has central air before the heat hits!! pray for favor!! thanks!! |
Doing my taxes today and boy is it depressing me. :(:(:(
Made me think about retirement. I am in my 40's. Boy do I need to get out of debt...seriously.... and get going. :(:(:( |
We have an old style kitchen that we would like to completely tear out and replace in the future. Since we cannot afford to do it now, I figured we could at least replace the pull handles on the doors. Well, they are not standard size so we would have to order them special order which will cost lots of money ($100-$200). So we used a can of black spray paint and painted them. They look great and will do just find until we can redo the kitchen! I love just thinking about all the money we saved with a $3 can of spray paint!

hey Shelley ... that's okay about the taxes ... it bums everybody out ... and I've done a bunch for the last 30+ years ... and it gets about this time that I want to go into hiding, but just can't yet!!
Kar - that's great about your kitchen!! I'd like a new one too .. a new trailer would be better ... but in the meantime - make this one enjoyable ... can't wait to get out of debt myself ... and get ahead would just be a miracle to breath a sigh of relief! still have a ways to go! :thud: |

Don't forget about the $300 - $1200 tax benefit there for filing - a bonus if you qualify! Even if your income was 0 and you were on SSI & SSDI! :) |
Thanks Southie.
I went through all of my receipts and 2007 paperwork. Sorted it and sent it all off to the tax accountant. Made me feel good to send it off. I think we will get a refund. Got a little slammed today by some unexpected dental costs. Will have to figure out how to handle all of that. |
