I agree with the throwing money away part, when it was clear that Huckabee had no intention of backing out.
My impressions of Romney on a personal level is that he has a healthy ego, and I can't help feel that this also was part of it. Better to go out as a martyr for what he deems the "greater good" than a loser. This is quite an interesting election already. I heard someone say on one of the Sunday morning shows that there will be books written about this one -- I think they're right. |

I wondered myself what was happening. But then again,it could be behind the scenes politcal, too :-) Same thing happened to the incumbent Rep. governor(swift) when he ran for office here. She bowed out of the race....it was speculated that there was some behind the scenes maneuvers(sp?) going on there. I feel Romney may be better served helping this country with the Entitlement Reform that he mentioned briefly in his speech. If there is one thing I know about Romney, he knows how to tighten the reigns and weed out some of the riff-raff(lived through it when I was employed). He's pretty business minded where running govermental departments is concerned. I just couldn't picture him at the very top of the country. :)....well that's enough out of me for one evening. |
His Father
Was Gov. of Mi. when I was a teen...Please 1 Romney is enough in my
lifetime. Yessss that cheered me up...Yes his father had very neat hair but it was white, guess he didn't dye it...Sue :D:D |
Everyone who has lived in a state where any of these candidates come from has their own story - believe me - I lived in Massachusetts where even the mention of a Kennedy brought a tear to the eye of the liberals and then there's Kerry who is a total waste for much of the same reasons and we had Barney Frank and Tip O'Neal - the list for MA goes on and on - you have to wonder what people are thinking !! So glad I left the state !

The Kennedy factor (being played out in the Obama campaign) is quite the phenomenon.
He was President for less than 3 years. I understand the aspect of being inspirational but even with his tragically shortened term, President Kennedy's reign is not immune to criticism. |
Certainly not immune - I was in my 20's - he was charismatic - his father bought him the election - he had a young family and fashionable wife - I think his brother Bobby had a more to do with Russia backing down in Cuba then did JFK - he did next to nothing and still the Democrats in MA love anything to do with him and his extended family - they even have conveniently forgotten the brige in Chappaquiddick ! |
This is going to be a very interesting year in politics. I was glad Romney backed out of the race. I had enough of him when he was in MA. Why anyone would spend the amount of their personal wealth that he has is beyond me. I think his ego is definately the reason he spent so much vying for a possible position that will yield more power than financial gain. It's all about power.
Too bad there isn't a candidate yet that offers the best hope for the average person. It's still and always will be about the wealthy being able to hold office. Money begets money, begets power and so forth and so on. Is that what's really good for our great nation in the end? Carolyn :grouphug: |
Sandy, yes they are, a political power trip. I do wonder at times, when was the last time Hillary went grocery shopping, cooked a meal for her family, just holler for a servant or house keeper to get moving? Or a dinner invitation from a lobbyist?
There was a story back when the first Bush was prez, he went into a grocery store and didn`t know what a scanner was. Just have the maid do the shopping and scratch a check? They all do the photo and sound bites, but I think none have a real clue what the average American has to deal with. I have to laugh at both parties, it`s that or cry! My DW has been with K-Mart most of her adult life, makes around 13.50 an hour, but her health insurance costs about 3 bucks an hour of her pay. Getting ahead? They talk about Americans not saving enough, now not spending enough, and they always seem to find new ways to tax too much or to send our jobs and tax dollars out of the country. |
Romney.
I'm glad that Mitt dropped out. I am neither a republican nor a democrat. I'm an independent. I started not to care for Romney when his wife, Ann, was quoted in a news story about her MS. She made it sound like she was "cured" thanks to her husband and her faith. I'm certainly not going to denigrate anyone's belief in religion or their spouse, but come on! She's probably just in remission. For a while I had hopes that Mitt might be able to push for research into MS, and possible cures or treatments, but I don't think that any republican has that high on their agenda. Just my opinion.

I fully support people's faiths but when it comes to government, I believe in the separation of church and state.
Re: MS, Hillary Clinton received some type of award -- not sure when but I believe it was from the NMSS. Does anyone know what it was for? |
