Just to clarify...
This man is paralyzed because he broke his neck several years ago. He has minimal use of his arms. He was pulled over (driving his car with hand controls with his wheelchair in the back) because he missed his court date for a traffic violation. He was arrested for failure to appear in court. He was at the jail, being booked into jail when he was dumped out of his chair. He was asked to stand up to be searched and he told the deputy he couldn't stand. (After being pulled over driving a car with hand controls remember.) No one knows why she dumped him out of the chair, but I don't care why. Nothing justifies it. Even if he was threatening her, arguing with her, etc. There was no justification. He's in a wheelchair, she can walk away and calm down. It took time to shake him out of the chair, during which time she could have changed her mind and stepped away. Yes, officers have bad days too. But, if she can not control herself because of her personal issues, then she should NOT be in a position of authority. Period. I have had to deal with cops on power trips. They should not be cops. They are dangerous. People with disabilities are vulnerable enough. He was dropped onto his side hard enough that the JAIL did x-rays thinking he had broken ribs. He was helpless to even get back in his chair on his own. Just imagine if that was you. They could have done anything once he was on the ground. Society doesn't view people with disabilities as equal to other people. There was just a 25 year old cognitively disabled man that was repeatedly, brutally beaten to death. The judge was concerned when sentencing about the offender, not the victim. It's sad but true. This is just another example. She need to be fired, period. If she was capable of doing this with camera's rolling, what has she done when there were no cameras?

I was so shocked when I watched this video, then REALLY P'd off. This is an extreme outrage. I suppose if this "woman's" grandmother was in a wheelchair she would have no problem with someone dumping her out on the ground like that? Wonder if her co-workers would be laughing about that? I think not.
My DH is also considered disabled and unfortunately we both agree that the only way to fight this type of ignorance and abuse is to hit them where it hurts - their wallets. I'd sue everyone I could over this one. Frankly, people like this deputy and her co-workers should never have a job working with the public, nor should they have a position of authority. And this is cleaned up a great deal from what's going through my mind. |

DH & I just watched the video. ....
We also sat here with our mouths wide open catching flies!! ...That is so disgusting, and to be honest I doubt I'd have believed the story if I hadn't seen the tape for myself. Boo to this poor excuse for a human being!...

Well I live here, where this happened and it is a sad case. I certainly hope this doesn't happen to me, I use a wheelchair and also drive with hand controls. This is not the first time something like this happened, and unfortunately will probably not be the last.

This is the first I had heard of this, and yes I'm appalled! Even if the deputy had some personal reason to think that the man might be faking, he should have given him the doubt. What he did was way beyond the pale!
