Talking Me & my big ol' mouth...

I gotta be more careful about what I promise.

Oh, BTW Curious, sorry I missed ya in Norfolk. That was the same summer that I moved to VA from WVA, though. So in a way we were both "visiting" at the same time. I just stayed...

ANYWAY. Friday wasn't incredible, Scrabble. It was nuts. From my perspective anyway. First I went out for lunch with my Mom, and...my Dad went along...

Curious knows a little about my relationship with my Dad. We've talked about it before. Let's just say it ain't close. He hated watching football until I started watching it, and then he picked as his favorite team the one who was rivals with MY favorite team. In all my forty-four years of life I have NEVER had lunch with my Dad before.

And he went on his own. Offered to go. Wanted to go???...

He tried to pick an argument with me toward the end, but I didn't let him. I just changed the subject to something else and kept on grinnin' & eatin'.

Then, not so happily, I found out that a nephew of mine had gotten himself in some trouble with the law. Nothing mean or ugly...there ain't a mean bone in the boy's body...but stupid. And serious enough that he has to do some weekends in jail for it. I won't say what he did, but it was REALLY 99% just a huge mistake on his part.

Okay, so I'm trying to absorb that, and then my son gets home from school. And HE'S in trouble, too. Not with the law, or even the school. Far worse...with his Mama. I've tried and tried to teach the boy that there are three things you don't do to Mama:

Don't make her mad. That's bad.

Don't embarrass her. That's worse.

Don't SCARE her. That's a death sentence...

Poor kid. His Mama, and HER Mama, sat up in the living room half of friday night planning out his punishment. It still ain't over. What he did was wrong, but not unexpected for a teenager. But he's seventeen, and now he's being punished not only for what he did friday, but for the fact that he peed on his sister when he was three. And ran over a flower with the mower. And has curly, unmanageable hair...

I've been trying to defend him some, but...I ain't stupid.

Okay...then to finish the day. I got the pleasure of hearing my fourteen year old girl tell a boy that "she loves him" over the phone. For the first time. Sigh...

I was so tuckered out by friday night you wouldn't believe it, but I was a fool to think I might get any sleep...

I hope it was a good "stunner", Curious...

So it was YOU who planned that whole thing out, huh? I knew it couldn't be coincidence...four impossible things in one day...

Tricky monkeys...

Boy, I sure wish that silly-face icon wasn't so pink. I love the little thing, but as a guy...does it have to be such a PINK shade of PINK???

it was a stunner....let's just say ( on an open forum ) that this news might just actually allow my x to be a grandfather to grandmonkey. and to work on his relationships with his kids.

Idealist,

Well, I'm sorry to read that your 'incredible Friday' was not incredible in a good way. (<------ the purple guy is kinda cute)

Good for you for not letting your Dad start an argument with you!

I hope things won't be too miserable for your son with whatever the punishment ends up being for him. I know about teenage boys and grounding.

You really did deserve to get some sleep after all that happened on your Friday!

I just got home from my Hip Hop class and I was glad to see my kids made dinner as per my instructions. My daughter had already left for her Jazz class when I got in and I briefly saw my son as he left for his soccer practice. So I had a quiet dinner alone. Far East Chicken, Red Thai rice and broccoli. I bought a fieldberry pie but I think I'll wait for the kids to return so we can maybe have some dessert together. I guess I should go tackle the mess in the kitchen!

Oh, tonight my Hip Hop teacher was away and his sub was my daughter's dance instructor. Man, she sure is fit! After the adult Hip Hop class at my Recreation Centre she was off to the dance studio to teach my daughter's Jazz class.

Curious,

with not knowing much about your situation ... I'm not sure what to think of your phone call .... but I hope it is a good thing if it comes through.

guess you could say that cinderella's step-mother looks like glynda the good witch compared to my kids step-mother. she hadn't "allowed" my x to have anything to do with grandmonkey. pretty darn sad when we all go to bubbamonkeys soccer games.

Curious, I think that's wonderful. Great. Fantastic! I know it was just the first phone call, but I sure hope it all goes forward the best...

Scrabble, sorry I missed ya. You sound tired, though, so I hope you're sleeping right now. Man, that dinner you had sounds good. I gotta learn how to cook...
